| Recent Blog Post: Long Game Extra: Live-tweeting the Auction |
| My home AL-only keeper league auction is today (12 teams, 5x5, pretty standard roto ultra rules with the addition of an in-season salary cap), and I figured I might as well live-tweet the thing. Why? For reasons!
If you want to follow along, my Twitter handle is @AntonSirius. I'm starting it out with $173 (only three teams have more, with the big stack carrying $208), and the following roster:
C: Salvador Perez $3B, Tyler Flowers $3C
1B: Eric Hosmer $17Y
SS: Eduardo Nunez $6C
CI: Chris Carter $8B
OF: David Murphy $4B, Jonny Gomes $1B
P: Yu Darvish $31B, Matt Moore $10B, Brett Anderson $2B, Felix Doubront $2B
Minors: Bubba Starling, Michael Choice, Jonathan Schoop
(Note: for long-term contracts we bump the letter designation to the end of the alphabet so that they expire at the end of their 'Z' season.)
As you can see, I'm set at catcher and don't have to worry about scarcity there, but I've got no closers so I'll have to pay full retail for a couple. Third base is also an issue, as there are only three good ones (Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Beltre and Evan Longoria) available. All the young middle-tier guys are protected, so the drop-off in talent after the big three is STEEP. If I don't land one of them, I could be looking at a Matt Dominguez as the fallback. That's scary.
Nunez was the only really difficult choice, but with Jeter out for a bit, the other injury issues the Yankees have and me lacking steals, $6 didn't seem like much of an overpay and I could easily see him going for more at auction. The alternative would have been something like Eric Sogard at $1, and that seemed like a much bigger risk.

Andrew Bailey (P) BOS |
5/22/2013 |
| Bailey made his return to the mound Wendesday, giving up a solo shot and striking out a batter in a non-save appearance against the White Sox. |
Bailey gave up a towering shot to Paul Konerko, but finished off the rest of the inning cleanly. While he entered the game in a non-save situation, Bailey had begun warming up when the score was calling for a save. This only confirms that he will resume his role as the Red Sox's closer going forward. |
|
Clay Buchholz (P) BOS |
5/22/2013 |
| Buchholz pitched well against the White Sox on Wednesday (7IP, 5H, 1ER, 3BB, 4K), notching his club-leading seventh win of the season. |
Buchholz continued his early season success, making the White Sox his next victim. He did issue three walks, but he didn't let them come back to haunt him as Chicago was just 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. He has been so dominant this season that Wednesday's one-run gem actually raised his ERA to 1.73 on the year. His FIP is only 77 points higher than his ERA, so we are not witnessing a fluke job here. Buchholz will look to continue his Cy Young caliber season when he takes on the Phillies next Monday. |
|
Pat Light (P) BOS |
5/22/2013 |
| Light had to leave his outing with Low-A Greenville after facing just one batter due to a hamstring cramp, WEEI reports. |
The former first round selection had to exit the game after experiencing a cramp in his hamstring. This injury isn't considered serious, but no news has been released on whether he will make his next start. |
|
David Ross (C) BOS |
5/22/2013 |
| Ross (concussion) will serve as the catcher in a rehab assignment at Double-A Portland on Thursday, the Boston Globe reports. |
Ross will be catching for Franklin Morales (chest), who is also making a rehab start for the Red Sox. The catcher is expected to only need the one start behind the plate for Portland before being activated off the 7-day DL and rejoining the Red Sox over the weekend. |
|
Shane Victorino (OF) BOS |
5/22/2013 |
| Victorino will sit out for the second game in a row Wednesday at the White Sox, despite improvement with his left hamstring, WEEI.com reports. |
Victorino is out for the fourth time in his past six outings, but with an upcoming four-game series against Cleveland through Sunday, he should soon be back in left field for the Red Sox. |
|
Pedro Ciriaco (3B) BOS |
5/22/2013 |
| Ciriaco's job as Boston's utility infielder may be in jeopardy as the Red Sox have Jose Iglesias playing third base and plans to have him play second for Triple-A Pawtucket, the Boston Herald reports. |
Ciriaco has struggled at the plate, but it's in the field where the Red Sox are most concerned. He has six errors in 36 chances this season. Iglesias, if nothing else, would give the Red Sox a superior fielder as a fill-in at shortstop, second base and third base. He played his first pro game at third base Tuesday night for Pawtucket. |

| The Red Sox announced that they will move Thursday's game-time start from 7:10pm to 6:10pm EST, the Boston Globe reports. The shift will allow fans attending the game the chance to watch the Celtics in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Those in daily transactions leagues will need to make starting lineup decisions involving Boston and Arizona players one hour earlier. |

9/20/2008 |
| The Red Sox announced that they will shift their High-A affiliate from Lancaster (Calif.) to Salem (Va.), the Providence Journal reports. The move means Boston will have all of its affiliates on the East Coast and rids the organization of the issue of high winds in Lancaster that distorted performances of minor leaguers. |
