Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Saturday night offers a rare MLB slate in which there are numerous ways to pick pitchers and none of them cost an overwhelming amount. That should allow for power at almost every position on the squad and a couple homers are the hope with a few big bats.

PITCHER

Mike Foltynewicz, ATL vs. COL ($46): Foltynewicz comes at a great rate considering he's rarely been shelled this season and is coming off a dominant eight-inning, seven-strikeout performance. The Rockies are a good team on the surface, but have been brutal against righty arms on the road with a 29.3 K%, .154 ISO and .296 wOBA since the beginning of July.

Zack Godley, ARI at SD ($39): Godley hasn't been the most consistent pitcher this year, but he's had some nice fantasy outings due to strikeouts. He's hit at least 24 fantasy points with 23 strikeouts over his last three starts and should continue that run against the Padres, which have a 24.3 K% and .295 wOBA against righties over the last month.

CATCHER

Salvador Perez, KC at CWS ($21): Similar to the Royals, Perez hasn't had the best season, yet his power is still there with 15 homers and a .203 ISO against righty arms. The good news is that everyone is roasting Dylan Covey, who has allowed 20 runs in his last four starts with one of those coming against the Royals.

FIRST BASE

Cody Bellinger, LAD at SEA ($18): Bellinger's numbers have picked up over the last couple weeks and he still sports a respectable 32 extra-base hits – including 14 HR – and .362 wOBA against righties. Erasmo Ramirez was decent last start, but that was against the Astros during their home losing streak. He's allowed five homers to 38 lefties faced after having a 1.97 HR/9 against lefties last year.

SECOND BASE

Niko Goodrum, DET at MIN ($13): Goodrum has hit three home runs in the last eight games and all of his power comes against righty hurlers with a .237 ISO for the season. Kohl Stewart gave up eight hits and three runs in 4.1 innings against the Tigers in his MLB debut last week. He was only slightly better than that in Double-A (.389 BABIP allowed) and Triple-A (.333 BABIP allowed) this year.

THIRD BASE

Justin Turner, LAD at SEA ($24): Turner is worse against righties, but he's at least above average and posted a .360 wOBA against them last year. He's also tearing it up with multiple hits in five of his last eight games. Ramirez can't be trusted on the mound and slumped to a 4.40 xFIP against righty bats in 2017.

SHORTSTOP

Nick Ahmed, ARI at SD ($16): Ahmed hasn't shown much in the last week, but he's still worth a look against any southpaw due to his .265 ISO and .362 wOBA from 17 extra-base hits – including eight HR – in 132 at-bats. Clayton Richard continues to fight for the Padres, though that doesn't matter much when he comes in with a .332 wOBA allowed and 4.51 xFIP against righty bats.

OUTFIELD

Steven Souza Jr., ARI at SD ($17): Souza's overall numbers don't show much power this year, yet he's still been able to produce six XBH – with two HR – in only 47 at-bats against lefties to go with a career .337 wOBA. Richard gives up multiple runs almost every start and his .332 wOBA allowed against righties is not much better than the .377 from last year.

Daniel Palka, CWS vs. KC ($16): Palka relies on power, so he's bound to have success whenever he faces a righty that isn't big on strikeouts. Palka sports a solid 16 homers and .263 ISO against righties, and already went 2-for-2 against Brad Keller last month. Keller gave up five runs and four walks in that start and his 4.91 xFIP and lower 16.5 K% against lefties could once again be a problem.

Alex Gordon, KC at CWS ($13): Gordon is the cheap play to use, not because he can only hit righties, but also because he's good for a hit against Covey. Gordon is 5-of-14 with two doubles and a home run against Covey over the last two years. Throw in Covey's .357 wOBA allowed to lefties and this looks like a fit.
