Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Saturday's MLB main slate features plenty of action, with 12 games on tap after 7:05 PM Eastern time. Below, you'll find which individual pitchers and hitters are primed to provide the best value, as well as the top lineup stacking options in this slate.

Pitching Overview

There's a limited number of top-tier arms on the mound, but one expensive pitching option who should be worth paying up for if you have the funds is Mike Clevinger ($58) at home against the bottom-five Royals' offense. Clevinger's 2.46 FIP suggests his 3.11 ERA is actually due to come down even further, and he's provided an excellent source of strikeouts with a 36.5 percent strikeout rate.

Colorado averages the fourth-fewest runs per game on the road, and red-hot Cardinals' righty Dakota Hudson ($33) is likely to keep the Rockies' offense at bay in St. Louis. Hudson has tossed 12.2 scoreless frames over his last two starts, including 6.2 no-hit innings against the Brewers last time out.

Oakland's Chris Bassitt ($40) promises a high floor at home against San Francisco's 25th-ranked offense. Bassitt has been hot of late with a 1.80 ERA in his last four starts and a 2.36 mark over his last seven.

Value Plays/Chalk

The Twins, Reds and Cardinals are all primed for success against some vulnerable opposing pitchers, but there's plenty of value to be found outside of those three stackable lineups.

White Sox' first baseman Jose Abreu ($22) has excelled against left-handed pitching this season, posting a wOBA over .400. His success in that split should continue against Rangers' southpaw Kolby Allard.

Rookie Toronto third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ($24) took some time to acclimate to the big-league level, but he's been mashing recently with an OPS over 1.10 since Jul. 19. He should keep rolling against Seattle's Felix Hernandez, who's returning from a shoulder strain and owns a 6.52 ERA in 38.2 innings of work this season.

Houston's Robinson Chirinos ($11) represents a nice affordable option at the catcher position. His wOBA against lefties is over .400 heading into this meeting with Angels' southpaw Dillon Peters.

Stacks

Twins vs. Edwin Jackson (Tigers)

Luis Arraez (2B - $18), Jorge Polanco (SS - $23), Max Kepler (OF - $25)

Minnesota's potent bats from the left side should jump all over Jackson, who doesn't have much left in the tank judging by his 8.46 ERA and 7.58 FIP over 44.2 innings of work this year. Arraez and the switch-hitting Polanco each boast a wOBA over .380 against righties. Kepler's over the .350 mark and will maximize his plate appearances out of the leadoff spot.

Reds vs. Trevor Williams (Pirates)

Josh VanMeter (1B - $10), Derek Dietrich (2B - $10), Aristides Aquino (OF - $25)

Williams has struggled after dealing with a side strain earlier this season, posting an 8.03 ERA and 6.99 FIP in 10 starts since returning. VanMeter has recently been moved to the leadoff spot against righties, and the left-handed slugger has recorded a wOBA over .370 against them. Dietrich also owns the platoon advantage and a wOBA over .370 against righties. Meanwhile, Aquino has taken the league by storm with an OPS over 1.20.

Cardinals vs. Chi Chi Gonzalez (Rockies)

Dexter Fowler (OF - $18), Kolten Wong (2B - $16), Matt Carpenter (3B - $10)

Gonzalez has experienced major problems against left-handed hitters, allowing a .414 wOBA to the 66 batters he's faced from that side this season. The switch-hitting Fowler should maximize his plate appearances out of the leadoff spot, Wong bats right behind him in the order, and this could be a great buy-low opportunity on the struggling Carpenter.
