2024 Fantasy Outlook
After a magical 2022 season that put him in Cy Young contention for much of the campaign, Gonsolin struggled to get on track last year. An ankle sprain resulted in the right-hander beginning the season on the IL, though he pitched well upon his return, compiling a 1.93 ERA (albeit with a 4.24 FIP) through his first nine starts. Things fell apart for Gonsolin after mid-June, however, and it was eventually revealed that he pitched through an elbow issue for over a month. Not long thereafter, Gonsolin hit the injured list again with right forearm inflammation, and he subsequently underwent Tommy John surgery. The procedure will likely keep the hurler out of action for most (if not all) of 2024, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him as a Dodger, as the team not only has multiple young arms looking to settle into the rotation but also traded for (and extended) Tyler Glasnow in the offseason and will have Shohei Ohtani leading the staff in in 2025. Placed on 60-day IL
The Dodgers placed Gonsolin (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Friday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Clayton Kershaw (shoulder). Kershaw, of course, will soon go on the 60-day IL himself, creating another spot. Gonsolin will miss the 2024 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

How much he'll be able to pitch in a postseason contest will be dependent upon how well his two appearances go before the regular season's end. The Dodgers are reportedly considering combining Andrew Heaney, Dustin May -- out with a back issue -- and Gonsolin as a fourth option for the postseason behind Julio Urias, Clayton Kershaw and Tyler Anderson.

Gonsolin was in contention for the NL Cy Young Award with a 16-1 record, 2.10 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 116:35 K:BB across 128.1 innings before he suffered a forearm strain in late August, and he only returned from the injured list during the final week of the regular season. The right-hander worked as a swingman for the Dodgers over the previous three years, but he was a pivotal rotation piece in 2022, especially given the pitching staff's other injury woes. The right-hander had a 23.9 percent strikeout rate and 7.0 percent walk rate, and opposing batters hit only .172 with a 0.76 HR/9. Gonsolin had a 3.70 xFIP and may have a tough time replicating the dominant campaign, though he'll continue to benefit from making half his starts and Dodgers Stadium and having a strong defense behind him.
