2024 Fantasy Outlook
Crochet missed all of 2022 following Tommy John surgery and was limited to just 25 apperances between the majors and minors last season due to a shoulder injury. When healthy, the lefty walked more batters (13) at the big league level last year than he struck out (12), but the sample was limited to only 12.2 innings. He ended the season healthy, but the Crochet's persistent injury woes have made it difficult for the White Sox to settle on his role. Recent reports indicate his workload will be monitored during spring training and Chicago will determine whether to stretch him out to start in 2024, or use him in relief. Fantasy managers have been willing to gamble on Crochet's upside for a few years now, but he has yet to realize his potential. If health prevails in 2024, Crochet could re-emerge on fantasy radars, but expect a high WHIP no matter what role he fills. Read Past Outlooks
Draws Opening Day nod
The White Sox announced Monday that Crochet will start the team's season opener March 28 versus the Tigers in Chicago.
ANALYSIS
A converted reliever who has yet to make a big-league start and is just under two years removed from Tommy John surgery, Crochet is a bold choice for the Opening Day starting nod. The White Sox's decision to go with Crochet for the season opener speaks to the organization's lack of attractive alternatives, though the 24-year-old lefty at least brings some upside to the table. After struggling with his control late last season when he rejoined the White Sox bullpen following his recovery from elbow surgery, Crochet has looked far sharper this spring, striking out 12 and walking none while working around seven hits across nine scoreless frames. Fantasy managers shouldn't jump to any grand conclusions based on the spring numbers, but the improved results along with the White Sox's commitment to him in a starting role are enough to put Crochet on the radar as a late-round target in fantasy drafts.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely staying in bullpen
White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz said Thursday that Crochet is unlikely to start next year, reports James Fegan of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Crochet missed all of the 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and is unlikely to return until mid-season 2023. The 23-year-old has never started in the majors but did make 13 starts in college and often pitched multiple innings while playing for the Tennessee Volunteers. It's possible he could return in a bulk-inning role and move to the rotation by the end of the season, similar to Michael Kopech's usage in 2021, but it does not appear that the White Sox plan to stretch Crochet out before he returns to the team.

2021
Crochet missed all of 2022 while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. The White Sox hope he'll return by mid-season. Before the surgery, the plan was for Crochet to follow Michael Kopech's example and begin the season as a multi-inning reliever before joining the rotation. The White Sox still envision Crochet as a starter, but there are no plans to work in that capacity in 2023. The hope is he builds up ample innings to make the full transition in the off-season. Still just 23-years-old, there is plenty of time for Crochet to make it as a starter, but with his arsenal, high-leverage relief work is a solid fallback. It's risky to trust Crochet in redraft leagues, but he could be a target to stash in keeper formats.
