2024 Fantasy Outlook
It might surprise you to learn that, among players with at least 500 plate appearances over the last two seasons, only four have a higher batting average than Ramirez's .306 mark. The 29-year-old has hit .300 in each of his two seasons in Tampa Bay and has done so thanks in large part due to his ability to crush left-handed pitching, as he torched southpaws to the tune of a .345/.385/.486 batting line over that span. Ramirez sports a more pedestrian .279/.322/.401 line versus righties during that time, giving the Rays all the excuse they need to limit his exposure against same-handed hurlers. He cracked a career-high 12 home runs in 2023, but Ramirez's heavy groundball tendencies (54.5 percent) and inconsistent playing time make him mostly a batting average specialist. Read Past Outlooks

Gets breather Saturday
Ramirez is not in the Rays' starting lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Ramirez has started in each of the Rays' last four games, going 4-for-16 with two runs and a stolen base over that span. With Ramirez out of the lineup, Isaac Paredes will shift over to DH for Saturday's game, while Austin Shenton draws the start at first base with Yandy Diaz sitting due to a left pinky injury.

Trade value improving?
Ramirez is playing center field this winter in the Venezuelan League, which Jon Morosi of MLB Network speculates could boost his trade value.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old made 14 appearances in the corner outfield last season but hasn't seen action in center field for the Rays since 2021. Ramirez is coming off the best season of his career, and Tampa Bay may be looking to sell high after he posted a .313/.353/.460 slash line in 122 games during 2023.

Ramirez was acquired by the Cubs in November 2021, but he was traded to the Rays after the lockout in March. He had a strong campaign for Tampa Bay with a .300/.343/.404 slash line, six home runs and 58 RBI in 120 games. The 28-year-old split most of his playing time between first base, right field and designated hitter, but he could see more action at first in 2023 after the Rays traded away Ji-Man Choi. Ramirez had a .350 BABIP that was fueled by a 40.9 percent hard-hit rate, and he outperformed his expected average by 20 points. He should see regular starts against left-handed pitching and should provide a solid average given his contact skills, though he's not likely to hit .300 for a second straight year. Ramirez's fantasy value is mostly tied to his average given his limited power and speed.
