Day 1 of the NBA Draft Combine has come to a close. While only part of the field has gone through agility testing, nearly every player in Chicago took part in measurements.
Based on the information available, here are a handful of players who turned heads at Quest Multisport in Chicago:
Brandon Clarke
While Clarke's measurements weren't great -- 6'8.25" in shoes with an identical wingspan -- he registered a 40.5" max vertical and a 34" standing vert. Both were among the best overall performances among players who went through testing on Day 1. Clarke also ranked among the top at his position in lane agility and three-quarter sprint times. If you've watched Clarke play, none of this is overly surprising, but it was nonetheless beneficial for him -- especially as an older prospect -- to officially get the agility numbers on the record.
Nassir Little
Little measured in at 6'6" in shoes -- about as expected -- but his 7'1.25" wingspan is what will help him most, in terms of projecting his defensive potential. Little also fared well in the vertical leap testing, registering a 31" standing and 38.5" max vert.
Carsen Edwards
Somewhat surprisingly, Edwards opted out of 5-on-5 scrimmages, but if anything that's probably an indication that his team feels good about his stock at present. Edwards was never going to blow anyone away in measurements, but he did clear the six-foot plateau, measuring in at 6'0.25" in shoes. More importantly, Edwards flashed a 6'6" wingspan and weighed in at 199 pounds, with just 5.5% body fat. By comparison, Auburn's Jared Harper, who's nearly the same height, weighed just 169 pounds.
Admiral Schofield
Measurement-wise, Schofield came in a little under his listed height of 6'6" (6'5.25"), but he has nearly a 6'10" wingspan, which bodes well for his archetype as a NFL tight end versatile, defense-first wing. The real reason Schofield is a winner, though, is he pulled out of 5-on-5 late Wednesday night. Typically, that's an indication that a prospect either feels solidified in their standing or has secured a guarantee. Whichever is the case, it's likely a positive development for Schofield.
Romeo Langford
Langford didn't go through any agility testing, but he still comes away a winner after registering a 6'11" wingspan to go with his 6'6" (in shoes) frame. The freshman has been recovering from a torn thumb ligament since leaving Indiana in the spring, but the hope is he'll be healthy enough to work out for teams individually in the coming weeks.
Jordan Bone
Bone is a tad undersized, but he weighed in at a reasonable 179 pounds and showed off his impressive quickness in agility testing. Among those who tested Thursday, the Tennessee product led the way in shuttle run, three-quarter sprint, and standing vertical, while ranking second in max vertical (42.5"), behind only Jalen Lecque. Bone was also the only player to crack the 10-second barrier in the lane agility drill (9.97 seconds). In the scrimmage portion, however, Bone was mostly unremarkable, finishing with four points on 2-of-8 shooting (0-3 3PT), to go with two rebounds, an assist and three turnovers.
OTHER NOTES
LSU's Naz Reid measured 6'9.5" in shoes, with an impressive 7'3.25" wingspan, but he may have canceled it out by posting the Combine's highest body fat percentage -- by far. Reid's mark of 14 percent was more than five percentage points higher than the next-highest (Shamorie Ponds).
Former New Balance intern, Darius Bazley, had some strong moments in the second scrimmage Thursday. Bazley finished a difficult eurostep-reverse layup in the first half that drew ooh's from an otherwise-lethargic assemblage of media, scouts and team personnel. Then, he broke out the euro again in the second, this time switching hands in mid-air and drawing a foul before floating the ball in with his non-dominant right hand. While he has a solid lower-body, Bazley still needs to add strength to his arms and core, but he's an impressive physical specimen at 6'9" with a 7' wingspan. In terms of his jumper, Bazley is a bit mechanical, but he shot the ball confidently and hit one of his two attempts from three.
Not that anyone should be surprised, but Tacko Fall's measurements were off the charts. He measured 7'7" in shoes (7'5.25" without) with a ridiculous 10'2.5" standing reach and 8'2.25" wingspan. Fall was among the standouts at the G League Elite Camp earlier in the week -- earning him an invite to the Combine -- but he had an up-and-down scrimmage Thursday, falling victim to many of the same weaknesses that plagued him in college. Fall struggled, at times, to react quickly and hold onto the ball in traffic, and he ultimately finished with five points on three shots (both makes were dunks) to go with six rebounds and three blocks -- one of which came in emphatic fashion on an ill-advised challenge by Tennessee's Grant Williams.
KZ Okpala checked in at 6'9.5" in shoes and registered a 37" max vertical. He remains an intriguing, defensive-minded option in the back end of the first round.
Tyler Herro did not take part in agility testing -- it's unclear if he'll do so Friday -- but it was a pleasant surprise that he measured 6'6" in shoes. However, his wingspan was just over 6'3".
Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, Ja Morant, and Darius Garland opted out of measurements, while De'Andre Hunter and Gonzaga's Killian Tillie withdrew from the Combine altogether.
