Yahoo DFS Basketball: Monday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

There seem to be more bargain bin options than usual during Monday's slate of 11 games, which should allow for optimal cash-game lineup construction. It also helps that there are five games with over/unders greater than 200 points, so try to target some of the cheap players in those contests. The most appealing of the matchups is Clippers-Wizards, as Los Angeles will need to spread it around a bit more with Blake Griffin out and the Wizards are trying to build on a four-game win streak despite dealing with a multitude of injuries. If you're willing to stay up late on the East Coast, the Kings and Warriors have the 10:30 p.m. EST tip in a game that should see plenty of offense considering how fast the teams like to play.

GUARD

J.J. Redick, LAC at WAS ($15) - Of all the low-priced guards, Redick may offer the most upside. He's hit at least three 3-pointers in eight straight games and is coming off an impressive 25-point outing against the Jazz -- one of the better defensive units in the league. The Wizards have been playing better lately, but they still do a miserable job defending beyond the arc. It's clear the Clippers are going to have to play a more perimeter-oriented game with Blake Griffin sidelined, which should give Redick more shot opportunities.

Darren Collison, SAC at GSW ($19) - In keeping with the theme of low-priced guards, Collison is another name that has been incredibly consistent off the Kings' bench this month. He's averaging over 30 minutes per game in his last five and posted a season-high 24 points against the Pacers last Wednesday. The Warriors and Kings rank first and second in the league in Pace Factor, respectively, so there's a good chance this game sees over 200 combined points. If that isn't enough, Collison has also shot a cool 60.8 percent from the field in his past five games.

Guard to Avoid

Brandon Knight, PHO vs. CLE ($35) - This is going against the grain a bit, as you would think Knight would be an obvious lineup choice with Eric Bledsoe sidelined. Maybe so, but not on Monday, as Knight will have to match up against Iman Shumpert and the Cavaliers, who have held four straight opponents to under 90 points. Normally Bledsoe would help alleviate some of the pressure of scoring, so his absence could actually hurt Knight's fantasy production more than it will help against Cleveland.

FORWARD

Nerlens Noel, PHI at UTA ($22) - There's a good chance that Jahlil Okafor will not play Monday because of a sore right knee, so Noel should be the primary low-post presence for the 76ers yet again. Without Okafor in the lineup, Noel had 14 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday's win against the Suns. He was incredibly efficient on offense as well, shooting 6-of-7 from the field while chipping in two blocks and three steals. The Jazz may be without center Derrick Favors, which will only make Noel's job easier. He isn't going to cost much and makes for a nice cash-game play.

Taj Gibson, CHI vs. TOR ($12) - Gibson has seen an increase in playing time, mostly because he's the Bulls' best low-post defender with Joakim Noah out with a shoulder injury. He isn't getting many touches, but he's making the most of those looks, shooting 66.7 percent from the field in his past five games. That has translated to at least 20 fantasy points in four of those five contests, including two double-doubles. You're paying nearly basement pricing for a starting power forward who is pretty much guaranteed to play 30 minutes.

Forward to Avoid

Paul George, IND vs. ATL ($49) - As one of the highest-priced forwards, you'd think George would be posting bigger fantasy numbers, but that hasn't been the case lately. He's failed to score more than 40 fantasy points in nine straight games and will have to deal with a Hawks team that is playing their best basketball of the season. George has just 37 points combined over his past three games and it doesn't make much sense to insert him into your lineup when Kawhi Leonard is $4 cheaper against the T-Wolves at home.

CENTER

Jeff Withey, UTA vs. PHI ($10) - As mentioned above, there's a chance Derrick Favors misses Monday's game, so Withey could be in line for another start. He only played 19 minutes in Saturday's loss to the Clippers, but managed to post six points, seven rebounds and two blocks for 20.4 fantasy points -- twice his salary. The Jazz should have no problem winning the rebounding battle against the 76ers and if Withey can get a little bit more playing time, he's got a shot at reaching double-digit boards.

Center to Avoid

Karl-Anthony Towns, MIN at SA ($32) - It was just Wednesday when the T-Wolves last played the Spurs, a blowout loss when Towns had 10 points and 11 rebounds. That game was in Minnesota, so don't expect things to get any easier Monday in San Antonio, where the Spurs are undefeated (17-0) while holding opponents to 87.6 points per game. On most nights it's a good idea to fade players going up against San Antonio and Monday is no different.
