Cavaliers Defeat Pistons, 126-119
The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the visiting Detroit Pistons, 126-119, at Quicken Loans Arena on Monday.
While Detroit led 32-25 after the first quarter, Cleveland was able to prevail. In fact, they rode a 35-29 second quarter to get back into the game and capped off their victory with a 39-31 fourth quarter. It was close throughout though, as there were 12 ties and 20 lead changes in total, with neither team leading by more than 11 points. The Cavaliers offense was unstoppable, as they shot 58 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. Turnovers were also key, with Cleveland winning the turnover differential, 11-8. That allowed the Cavaliers to win the points off turnover differential, 18-8.
The Pistons (36-34) were led by Wayne Ellington, as he amassed 25 points, two assists and two steals. Andre Drummond finished with 21 points, 21 rebounds, five assists and two steals. Reggie Jackson totaled 15 points, two rebounds and four assists. Ish Smith and Langston Galloway each led the bench with 13 points apiece.
The Cavaliers (18-53) were led by Collin Sexton, as he scored 27 points on 10-of-16 from the field. Cedi Osman accrued 21 points, four rebounds and six assists. Brandon Knight tallied 16 points, four rebounds and five assists while David Nwaba provided 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Jazz Hold On For Fourth Straight Win

The Utah Jazz defeated the host Washington Wizards 116-95, at Capital One Arena on Monday evening.
The Jazz got out to a strong start on the road, with a 31-24 lead after one quarter. They kept up the pressure in the second, where they led the entire quarter, before a push in the final minutes gave them a 12-point lead by halftime. The Wizards came out fighting in the third, but had no answers, as the Jazz continued to push forward, eventually pushing their lead to 20, by the end of the quarter. The Jazz held a double-digit lead the rest of the way, as they held on for their four straight win.
Donovan Mitchell led the Jazz with 19 points, two assists, one rebounds, one steal and a block, in 32 minutes. Jae Crowder chipped in 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks, while Joe Ingles added 16 points, four assists, three rebounds and a steal. The Jazz shot 54 percent from the field, including 14-of-37 from deep.
Meanwhile, Jabari Parker led the Wizards with 19 points, seven rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block, in 29 minutes off the bench. The Denver Nuggets defeated the host Boston Celtics, 114-105, at TD Garden on Monday.

Raptors Notch 50th Win

The Toronto Raptors defeated the visiting New York Knicks, 128-92, at Scotiabank Arena on Monday evening.
The contest got out to a high-scoring start, while the Raptors pulled away later in the first, to take a 38-29 lead by the end of the quarter. The Raptors held control through the second quarter, where they held a double-digit lead nearly the whole way, until they took a 73-54 lead into halftime. The trend continued, as the Knicks simply could not keep up in the second half. The Raptors outscored them by 13 in the third, to take a 32-point lead into the final frame. The Raptors cruised through the fourth, en route to their 50th win of the season. Kyle Lowry (ankle) left the game late in the third, after tweaking his ankle.
Jeremy Lin led the Raptors with 20 points, three rebounds and two assists, in 26 minutes off the bench. Pascal Siakam added 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and a block, while Kyle Lowry totaled 15 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Spurs Hold Off Warriors, 111-105
The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Golden State Warriors, 111-105, at AT&T Center on Monday.
The Spurs (42-29) continue to roll, as despite playing their third game in four nights, the team managed to post a wire-to-wire victory over the NBA's best team. DeMar DeRozan led the way with a terrific all-around performance, recording a game-high 26 points, nine rebounds and eight assists across 38 minutes. His 25th and 26th points were the most important, as they came on a heavily contested jumper over Klay Thompson with just over a minute left that put the Spurs up six, and up for good. LaMarcus Aldridge was close behind with a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting, while Rudy Gay came off the bench to score 17 points.
As for the Warriors (47-22), it was a night to forget for their star backcourt, with Steph Curry and Thompson going a combined 14-of-43 from the field Monday night. Curry still managed to finish with a team-high 25 points thanks to making six threes, and he added seven rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Meanwhile, Thompson still hit four threes and finished with 14 points in 38 minutes. Kevin Durant didn't hit a single shot from behind the arc, going 0-of-4, but he still went 9-of-18 from the field and finished with 24 points. As a team, the Warriors shot a respectable 46.6 percent from the floor, but their lack of aggression resulted in few trips to the free throw line, and that may have cost them the victory, as they were just 10-of-12 from the stripe while the Spurs were 19-of-22.

Heat Topples Thunder, 116-107
The Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder, 116-107, at Chesapeake Energy Arena on Monday evening.
The Thunder (42-29) were significantly compromised coming into Monday's game, considering Russell Westbrook was sitting out the game due to a one-game suspension as a result of having earned a 16th technical foul on the season. However, with Paul George still at full health and available, OKC figured to still have enough to remain competitive against the visiting Heat (34-36). That held true in the first half, as Miami held a modest 58-55 halftime advantage. The visitors then appeared to gain serious separation by extending their lead by another eight points during the third and extending it to as much as 19 at the 7:29 mark mark of the fourth quarter. The home squad would finish on a 25-15 run from that point, but the Thunder never got closer than six points.
Goran Dragic led the way for the Heat with a 26-point, 11-assist double-double that also included five rebounds and two steals. Dwyane Wade followed with 25 points, complementing them with five assists, four rebounds, one steal and one block. Kelly Olynyk delivered 18 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one steal. James Johnson poured in 14 points and also supplied three rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks.J Josh Richardson continued struggling from the field with a 3-for-14 performance and mustered nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and one steal. Bam Adebayo and Derrick Jones, Jr. had matching eight-point tallies, with Adebayo also hauling in seven rebounds and dishing out four assists.

Pelicans Outlast Mavericks, 129-125
The New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 129-125, at American Airlines Center on Monday.
The chances of the Pelicans putting an end to their six-game losing streak were looking bleak late Monday night when the team was down four points with just over 10 seconds remaining. However, with an Elfrid Payton three followed by a Kenrich Williams steal and a dunk from Julius Randle, the team was up one point with five seconds left. Williams, however, fouled rookie Luka Doncic on the next possession, which resulted in one free throw and overtime. From there, however, were able to build their lead to seven in the extra period and lock up the victory.
Julius Randle was once again dominant for New Orleans, scoring a game-high 30 points to go along with nine rebounds and four assists in 34 minutes. Meanwhile, thanks to the overtime period, Elfrid Payton was able to notch his fifth consecutive triple-double, posting 19 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Frank Jackson had an impressive outing, matching Payton's 19 points, while Anthony Davis played just 21 minutes but still managed to score 20 points.
As for the Mavericks, Doncic led the way with a massive triple-double of his own, recording 29 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in 39 minutes. He didn't, however, have the most efficient shooting performance, going 1-of-7 from three and 10-of-27 from the floor overall. Tim Hardaway Jr. added 21 points of his own, while Dwight Powell and Jalen Brunson scored 16 and 14 points, respectively. Dallas couldn't get anything going from the outside Monday night, shooting a pretty poor 9-of-35 (25.7 percent) from behind the arc.

Bulls Take Down Suns, 116-101

The Chicago Bulls defeated the Phoenix Suns, 116-101, at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Monday evening.
A hot start set the tone early for Chicago (20-51), as the Bulls cruised to a clean victory after gaining a double-digit lead in the first quarter. 10 quick points from Kris Dunn contributed to a 34-point first for Chicago, giving the team a 14-point advantage by the end of the quarter. From there it was smooth sailing, as efficient play led the Bulls to shoot over 51 percent from the floor in the win. Phoenix (17-55) could not find an offensive groove, shooting just 7-of-26 from three-point range and a dismal 16-of-26 at the free-throw line.
Robin Lopez led Chicago in what proved to be a big man duel on Monday. Lopez scored a team-high 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting in the win. The veteran's strong play was complemented by stellar performances from Chicago's young core. Zach LaVine and Lauri Markkanen notched 20 points apiece, with LaVine also dishing out seven assists. Dunn, meanwhile, finished with 14 points and two steals.
Phoenix saw equally promising play from its young stars. Reigning first overall pick DeAndre Ayton was the game's leading scorer with 25 points. Ayton also tallied 12 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. Devin Booker also delivered a gem, scoring 25 points while dishing out seven assists. Ultimately, though, Phoenix's uninspired offensive effort could not get the job done against Chicago's efficient performance.
Chicago will return home to host the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. The Suns meanwhile, will next suit up on Thursday, when they're scheduled to take on the Detroit Pistons.

Trail Blazers Defeat Pacers, 106-98, Behind Lillard's Big Night

The host Portland Trail Blazers took down the Indiana Pacers, 106-98, at Moda Center on Monday evening.
After an early nine-point lead put Indiana (44-27) in the driver's seat, Portland (43-27) answered back with a big run to end the first half. The Trail Blazers finished the second quarter on a 9-0 run that included two three-pointers from Damian Lillard. Portland carried that same energy into the second half, opening up a 16-point lead by the end of the third quarter. Despite Indiana's notoriously stringent defense, the Blazers found success shooting the ball offensively. Portland finished the game shooting 13-of-32 from beyond the arc.
Lillard headlined the win with 30 points and a season-high 15 assists. His presence was also felt on the defensive end, where he tallied three steals. As a team, Portland saw six double-digit scoring performances, including two off the bench from Seth Curry and Rodney Hood.
On the Pacers' side, big man Myles Turner delivered a memorable night. Turner led the team with 28 points while also grabbing a team-best 10 boards. Five of those rebounds came on the offensive end. Forward Doug McDermott impressed as well, delivering 14 points off the bench.
The Pacers will travel to Los Angeles for the second half of a back-to-back on Tuesday. Portland, meanwhile, will host the Dallas Mavericks this Wednesday.

Lillard headlined the win with 30 points and a season-high 15 assists. His presence was also felt on the defensive end, where he tallied three steals. As a team, Portland saw six double-digit scoring performances, including two off the bench from Seth Curry and Rodney Hood.
On the Pacers' side, big man Myles Turner delivered a memorable night. Turner led the team with 28 points while also grabbing a team-best 10 boards. Five of those rebounds came on the offensive end. Forward Doug McDermott impressed as well, delivering 14 points off the bench.
The Pacers will travel to Los Angeles for the second half of a back-to-back on Tuesday. Portland, meanwhile, will host the Dallas Mavericks this Wednesday.
