Transfers to Oregon
GOregon
June 5, 2019
Mathis has informed Oregon that he'll join the program as a graduate transfer for the 2019-20 season, Andrew Nemec of The Oregonian reports.
ANALYSIS
After Mathis announced his intention to leave New Mexico two days earlier, Oregon quickly emerged as the frontrunner for his services, given his existing friendship with former prep teammate and current Ducks point guard Payton Pritchard. The two players will are now likely to share the same backcourt in their final seasons of eligibility. Mathis averaged 14.4 points, 3.3 triples, 2.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 30.8 minutes per game with the Lobos in 2018-19 and should have a good opportunity to replicate those numbers after Oregon lost three key players (Bol Bol, Kenny Wooten and Louis King) to the upcoming 2019 NBA Draft.
