CFB Waiver Wire: Players to Pick Up Week 10

CFB Waiver Wire: Players to Pick Up Week 10

This article is part of our CFB Waiver Wire series.

Waiver Wire Watch: Players to Pick Up Week 10

Throughout the college football season, I'll pick two guys from every conference who either caught my eye in the previous week or who have a favorable match-up in the near future. As always, I'll get to any questions or comments you have in the comments section below.

AAC

Patrick Taylor Jr, RB, Memphis

The Tigers are coming off a bye with an ideal matchup with East Carolina this week. I like Taylor even more this week as Henderson was last seen riding a stationary bike with an undisclosed injury versus Missouri. This allowed Taylor to have himself a game with 115 yards and two touchdowns. Even if Henderson is back and ready to go, Taylor should see enough carries to make him a worthy start in Week 10.

Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati

Ridder checked all of the boxes with an impressive 33 of 50 passing for 352 yards and two touchdowns in an overtime win over SMU. He did throw a pair of picks, but this was partially mitigated by 47 rushing yards. Ridder's nice numbers should only continue with upcoming games versus Navy, South Florida, UCF and East Carolina. At 7-1 and in the thick of the conference race, Ridder will be more than motivated to have solid performances in those games. Wide receiver Khalil Lewis has four touchdowns in this last three games.

Bryce Perkins, QB, Virginia

ACC

Bryce Perkins, QB, Virginia

Available in over 50 percent of leagues, Perkins should be owned in all leagues as a legitimate dual-threat quarterback. The Cavs are first place in the ACC's Coastal Division after Perkins led the team in rushing with 112 yards and a rushing score to go along with three scores through the air against North Carolina. The junior has a total of 21 scores versus eight interceptions on the season.

Tobias Oliver, QB, Georgia Tech

For the time being, it appears Oliver will start in place of TaQuon Marshall which is major fantasy news as the Jackets' triple-option offense creates multiple scoring opportunities for the quarterback position. Oliver rushed 40 times for 215 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-28 win at Virginia Tech. We know this isn't a fluke either as Oliver has been impressive in limited duties while recording two other 100-yard rushing performances this season.

BIG 12

Michael Collins, QB, TCU

With Shawn Robinson electing to have season-ending surgery, Collins will be the Horned Frogs' starter for the rest of the season. In Saturday's loss to Kansas, Collins completed 23 of 33 passes for 351 yards and a touchdown to go along with two rushing scores. TCU does not have an established run game and the team in playing in an overall funk which means they will likely need to throw against their remaining Big 12 opponents. I think Collins will be a decent play as TCU attempts to salvage a lost season.

Kennedy Brooks, RB, Oklahoma

Brooks has been on fire in his last four games with 34 carries for 403 yards and five touchdowns. The freshman has benefited from an injured Trey Sermon and one of the best offensive lines in America. Brooks should be considered in most fantasy leagues and is a good bet to score against Texas Tech this week even if Sermon is fully healthy.

BIG TEN

Zack Annexstad or Tanner Morgan, QB, Minnesota

Whoever ends up starting at quarterback for the Gophers should have a big week as Illinois has given up over 40 points in each of their last three games. Annexstad is looking to come back from an internal injury suffered against Nebraska in Week 8 and if he can't go, Morgan will make his second consecutive start. Morgan threw for 302 yards and three touchdowns in a Friday Night win over Indiana.

Garrett Groshek, RB, Wisconsin

Here's a sneaky recommendation as the Badgers return to Madison to play a Rutgers team who should give up all kinds of yards on the ground. Wisconsin's stud running back Jonathan Taylor continues to struggle with fumbles and Groshek provides additional value with 17 catches on the season. The Badgers aren't very equipped at the quarterback position which means the dump off pass is in play a lot more than it should be.

CONFERENCE USA

Brent Stockstill, QB, Middle Tennessee

Stockstill is available in a ton of leagues and has at least 20 fantasy points in three of his last five games. The Blue Raiders play a Western Kentucky team who have been beaten up by opposing quarterback all season long. The senior signal caller has tossed 15 touchdowns compared to five interceptions this season.
Tyler King, RB, Marshall

This is assuming King's undisclosed injury is not serious enough to keep him out of the upcoming game with Southern Miss. Prior to a fourth-quarter exit in the win over Florida Atlantic, King logged his third straight 100-yard rushing game. Moreover, he has three touchdowns in his last two games and has been a big reason why the Thundering Herd have been successful of late.

MAC

A.J. Ouellette, RB, Ohio: My MAC recommendations have been a revolving door of Bobcat players and this time it's Ouellette who is available in a ton of leagues. The senior's floor is really attractive considering he's had at least one score in five of his last six games. In a 52-15 win over Ball State, Ouellette had 153 yards and two scores on 15 total touches. Ohio should continue to score a bunch of points each and every week.

Blake Banham, RB/WR, Eastern Michigan

Banham showed his versatility versus Army with seven catches for 104 yards and a touchdown to go with a rushing score. He's not necessarily a dependable fantasy option for the rest of the season, but he'll be a good spot start against Central Michigan. The senior has 44 catches for 583 yards and four touchdowns on the season.

MOUNTAIN WEST

Sean Chambers, QB, Wyoming

The freshman came out of nowhere on Friday Night to score his first career passing and rushing touchdowns in a 34-21 win over Colorado State. Chambers took advantage of a horrible Colorado State defense to rush for over 100 yards and score three total touchdowns. I wouldn't trust the freshman against better defenses, but he should have another good performance against San Jose State. Just make sure he's set to make his second consecutive start for the Cowboys.

Jordan Love, QB, Utah State

If you haven't been paying attention to the Mountain West, the Aggies are amazing and are killing inferior teams in the conference. Love threw for 448 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for a score versus New Mexico. Love should continue his impressive run with soft defenses like Hawaii, San Jose State and Colorado State in the next three weeks. Running back Darwin Thompson and wide receiver Ron'quavion Tarver are also targets.

PAC-12

K.D. Nixon, WR, Colorado

With superstar Laviska Shenault out with a toe injury, Nixon took full advantage versus Oregon State with 13 catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Prior to the breakout game, Nixon had 33 catches for 362 yards and a single touchdown. Toe injuries tend to linger for receivers, so pick up Nixon who has considerably more value if Shenault misses anymore games. Even if the star receiver comes back, Nixon has proven he can provide some wide receiver depth.

Tyler Vaughns, WR, USC

Vaughns scored in all kinds of ways versus Arizona State while throwing for a touchdown, catching a touchdown and returning a punt for a touchdown. He'll have a few opportunities to score once again versus Oregon State as USC tries to salvage their season. Whether it's JT Daniels or Jack Sears, it doesn't appear it will have much of an effect on Vaughns' target share.

SEC

Jauan Jennings, WR, Tennessee

As alluded to last week, I want every bit of fantasy exposure I can get to Tennessee versus Charlotte in Week 10. The best player available via the waiver wire is likely Jennings who has noticeably seen an uptick in production over the last three weeks, including a 100-yard receiving performance versus Alabama. Running backs Tim Jordan and Ty Chandler are also targets for this week.

Rico Dowdle, RB, South Carolina

Dowdle has been hit or miss this season, however, is coming off one of his best games of the year with over 100 rushing yards versus Tennessee. There's a good chance he can make it two 100-yard rushing games in a row when the Gamecocks travel to play Ole Miss. I also like Bryan Edwards as a target at wide receiver.

SUN BELT

Tra Barnett, RB, Georgia State

Barnett has reached pay dirt in four straight games, including scores on 75- and 42-yard runs in Saturday's loss to Coastal Carolina. The Panthers quarterback Dan Ellington is currently playing through a sprained MCL, so it's possible the team may lean on Barnett a bit more in the near future.

Shai Wertz, QB, Georgia Southern

I was fully expecting Wertz to have a bad game versus App State, but that was not what happened as he ran for 129 yards and a touchdown in addition to a passing touchdown on his only completion. If he can do that versus the Mountaineers, he should have no problem running over Louisiana-Monroe.

INDEPENDENTS

Jason Huntley, RB, New Mexico State: Huntley is the Aggies best player and it's not even close as the junior back has eclipsed over 20 fantasy points in three of his last six games. He should continue a positive trend with an upcoming game with Alcorn State.

DEFENSE RECOMMENDATIONS

Wyoming (vs. San Jose State) – The Cowboys should be able to slow down the Spartans at home and are surprisingly averaging over 10 fantasy points per game.

Michigan State (at Maryland) – I usually don't like picking teams on the road, but Michigan State has been impressive of late.

Iowa State (at Kansas) – The Cyclones are playing their best football and let's not overreact on the Kansas conference win.

Northern Illinois (at Akron) – The Huskies won 7-6 at BYU in Week 9 and have been rather impressive defensively for most of the season.
