Wraps up career in Redbox Bowl
January 1, 2019
Scott carried 24 times for 84 yards and hauled in all three of his targets for no yardage Monday in Michigan State's 7-6 win over Oregon.
ANALYSIS
After an unspecified injury sidelined him for all but four of Michigan State's prior 12 contests, Scott gave up a potential redshirt option for 2019 by suiting up in the bowl game. Somewhat surprisingly, the senior handled a full workload in the contest, with an apparent left knee injury sustained in the second quarter not even derailing him. After ending his Michigan State career on the field, Scott will now turn his attention to the 2019 NFL Draft, where he'll look to land somewhere as a late-round pick or secure an invite to a rookie minicamp as an undrafted free agent. Scott's departure leaves Connor Heyward and La'Darius Jefferson as the leading candidates to head the Spartans backfield in 2019.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2018
2016
Despite the Spartans bouncing back as a team in 2017, Scott's effectiveness out of the backfield dipped from 5.4 to 4.5 yards per carry. He made up for some of the drop in rushing yardage by finding the end zone eight times and enters 2018 with running backs totaling a combined three carries worth of experience behind him. Scott should receive as much work as he can handle out of the backfield this season, and the return of an experienced offensive line paving the way should position him for a bounce-back senior season in East Lansing.
Scott was one of two stellar freshman running backs that helped the Spartans make the College Football playoff last season. As the thunder to Madre London’s lightning, the 6-0, 233-pound Scott bulldozed his way to a team-leading 699 yards on 147 carries (4.8 YPC) while reaching paydirt 11 times. That said, it’s worth noting that when 147 carries is good for the team lead on a Big 10 team, it’s safe to say that said team leans on a committee approach at the running back position. London isn’t going anywhere and rising junior Gerald Holmes serves as a nice change of pace/pass catching back out of the backfield, so while Scott may have the most talent of the three, he’s unlikely to be a true bell cow. One factor working in Scott and the rest of the run game’s favor is the fact that the Spartans will be breaking in a new quarterback for the first time since 2013. Regardless of whether it’s Tyler O’Connor, Damion Terry, or early enrollee Messiah deWeaver under center, Michigan State will likely lean on the run game plenty in 2016. Scott’s lack of pass-catching ability will hurt his value in PPR formats, but he should be the Spartans’ top option in red zone and goal line situations.
