Playing final year at Duquesne
Allen announced Tuesday that he would play his sixth and final season of college eligibility at Duquesne, Greg Pickel of The Harrisburg Patriot-News reports.
ANALYSIS
As a fifth-year senior at Penn State in 2018, Allen was sidelined for the majority of the campaign due to a knee injury. The Nittany Lions honored Allen at their Senior Day festivities with the expectation that his college career was over, but he successfully petitioned the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility over the winter. After seeing limited action behind a pair of future NFL backs in Saquon Barkley and Miles Sanders at Penn State, Allen -- if healthy -- should be in store for a larger role with Duquesne, an FCS program.

Allen enters his final season with the Nittany Lions in a similar position as he has been his entire collegiate career. Miles Sanders, who will take over as the primary rusher following Saquon Barkley's departure for the NFL, should receive the bulk of the carries in 2018. It's difficult seeing Allen making a huge impact after rushing no more than 29 times in a season prior, but he should contend with incoming freshman Ricky Slade for the team's backup duties.
