Deans suited up for the Pirates' first handful of practices in August before being removed from the roster late last week. The incoming redshirt junior was a candidate to compete for a starting role at outside receiver, but his departure leaves Blake Proehl, Andre Pegues, Leroy Henley, C.J. Johnson, Mydreon Vines and UCLA graduate transfer Audie Omotosho to vie for two spots on the first-team offense. Deans appeared in 20 games (four starts) during his time at East Carolina, logging 34 catches for 364 yards and three scores. The wideout entered the transfer portal, signaling he plans to continue his football career rather than forgoing his final two years of eligibility.
