ANALYSIS
Gatewood has opted to join Louisville this offseason after spending last season with Central Florida. The 6-foot-5 senior wideout has previously appeared with Auburn, Kentucky and UCF, but he failed to log any receptions with the three programs. Instead, Gatewood was utilized out of the backfield, compiling 82 carries for 352 yards and four touchdowns across 23 games. Gatewood, who also has experience playing under center, will look to carve out a larger role for himself with the Cardinals.

Gatewood was supposed to have the inside track at the starting quarterback job for the Wildcats, as former starter Terry Wilson graduated. However, Penn State transfer Will Levis may have the edge heading into Fall camp. Gatewood has elite size at 6-foot-5, 225-lbs, but was beat out by Bo Nix at Auburn two years ago, and barely played last season for the Wildcats. Gatewood will also compete with sophomore Beau Allen for reps. Gatewood has only thrown 43 passes in his collegiate career. The Wildcats should also continue to rely on their running game with Chris Rodriguez, Jr. and Kavosiey Smoke, and as such may play it safe with whomever lines up under center at the beginning of the season.
