Weekly Rankings: Week 15 Value Meter

Weekly Rankings: Week 15 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday update complete

Thursday Game - Chargers at Chiefs

Two Saturday games: Texans at Jets, Browns at Broncos

Here are my rankings (if you want a second opinion, please see our formula-based projections - these are not tied into my rankings at all) for the coming week at each position to help you decide your starting lineup. Our rankings are based on the following scoring system: four points for a passing touchdown; six points for a rushing/receiving touchdown; one point for every 20 passing yards; and one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards. Most importantly, the default rankings are now for PPR leagues.

**** PLEASE READ: Times change, and with them, so do I, even if I go kicking and screaming into the good night. The vast majority of the fantasy football universe plays with some form of PPR -whether it's a full point or 1/2 point. ESPN's default is full-point PPR, Yahoo's is .5 PPR. The DFS games for the vast majority are either half or full point PPR. I'm sympathetic to those of you who would prefer standard rankings, so please, feel free to ask your questions in the comments regarding how a player might change in a standard scoring league. ****

***PLEASE READ, PART II - The masses (ok, the not-so-silent minority) have spoken, and you really want more representation for standard leagues too, so the Flex Rankings are now Standard scoring.***

Typically, this article will be posted on Tuesday evenings. ***These are not draft rankings.

I will update these during the week, usually twice per week to account for injury or other news during practice. The timing of those updates will vary based on the news at hand and my schedule for the given week. But the first of those updates usually won't happen until Thursday. At any rate, I will post a "last updated" note at the top of the article, or an "update in progress" note if it's while I'm doing it. If there is no such note, that means it's my first pass at the rankings for this current week.

By all means, if you want to discuss a rank, or want me to add a player, chime in on the comments. I try to be receptive to your feedback and try to respond to most comments, though on occasion the volume can be quite thick. This first week in particular, but in other weeks as well, I will change ranks according to injuries and sometimes even a change of heart. Please refer to the rankings first when asking "should I start Player A vs. Player B?". And then refer to the rankings again before asking a generic starting decision question. If you really desire a response to a starting question that doesn't have added complexity, please use our Ask An Expert service - it comes with your subscription. Otherwise, my response will correspond with the rankings. If I rank one player before another, that's how I plan on making my starting decisions.

Quarterback

1.Patrick Mahomes KC vs. LAC
2.Drew Brees NO at Car
Note: Rushing TD salvaged an otherwise disappointing game against the Bucs.
3.*Tom Brady NE at Pit
Note: Had a strong game against the Dolphins, though getting sacked at the end of the first half cost the Pats a badly-needed three points. He also downplayed the knee issue that has put him on the injury list at the start of the last three weeks.
4.*Jared Goff LA vs. Phi
Note: I have a feeling that home field will cure what ails him and the passing offense.
5.Dak Prescott DAL at Ind
6.*Ben Roethlisberger PIT vs. NE
Note: (Ribs) Sat out four series against the Raiders, but returned late in a furtive effort to try to win the game. He's expected to play against the Pats this week, though it's worth noting he got a precautionary MRI on his ribs. Didn't practice Wednesday, but had a full practice Thursday. ***Full work again Friday, cleared from the injury report.***
7.Philip Rivers LAC at KC
8.Andrew Luck IND vs. Dal
9.Deshaun Watson HOU at NYJ
10.Aaron Rodgers GB at Chi
11.*Cam Newton CAR vs. NO
Note: (Shoulder) Didn't throw on Thursday, the Panthers' first practice day of the week. ***Full practice Saturday, and I like that he had the extra day to rest. I've moved him up four spots.***
12.Baker Mayfield CLE at Den
13.*Lamar Jackson BAL vs. TB
Note: Injured his ankle on the penultimate play in the loss to the Chiefs. He's expected to start this week, but could also lose snaps to Joe Flacco. Full practice Wednesday and officially named the starter for this week.
14.Kirk Cousins MIN vs. Mia
Note: Another horrible game, with a good chunk of his production coming on the last drive when the Vikings were down 21-0. So bad, it got his OC fired Tuesday morning.
15.Matt Ryan ATL vs. Ari
16.Josh Allen BUF vs. Det
17.Derek Carr OAK at Cin
Note: Played well despite having mediocre targets to work with.
18.Mitchell Trubisky CHI vs. GB
19.Russell Wilson SEA at SF
Note: Quietly had an awful passing on Monday night, too - only 72 passing yards and a hideous interception just before halftime.
20.*Nick Foles PHI at LAR
Note: Could end up starting the last three games, depending upon the path the Eagles take with Carson Wentz and his back. ***Officially named the starter.***
21.Eli Manning NYG vs. Ten
22.*Marcus Mariota TEN at NYG
Note: ***(Abdomen) Limited on Friday but cleared from the injury report.***
23.Jeff Driskel CIN vs. Oak
Note: Got robbed of a rushing touchdown on a horrendous overrule - absent that, he would have had a decent enough fantasy day.
24.Case Keenum DEN vs. Cle
Note: Averaged just 4.4 yards per attempt without Emmanuel Sanders.
25.Jameis Winston TB at Bal
26.*Sam Darnold NYJ vs. Hou
Note: Missed one drive with a foot injury, but then returned and ultimately led the Jets to the win. Should be able to play on Saturday. Had a full practice Tuesday and Wednesday. But he'll be playing without Quincy Enunwa and Isaiah Crowell.
27.*Ryan Tannehill MIA at Min
Note: Missed some time in the second quarter with an ankle injury but later returned. He's still sore, but expected to play this week. (Ankle) Looked good at practice, remains on target to play. ***Will start Sunday.***
28.*Cody Kessler JAC vs. Was
Note: Will remain the starter despite two weeks of struggles against the Colts and Titans.
29.*Matthew Stafford DET at Buf
Note: Held to a mere 101 passing yards in the win over Arizona. (Back) Limited practice Wednesday. ***Will play through his back injury Sunday.***
30.Nick Mullens SF vs. Sea
Note: Threw for 332 yards against the Broncos, most of which happened in the first half.
31.Josh Rosen ARZ at Atl
32.*Josh Johnson WAS at Jax
Note: Johnson will start ahead of Mark Sanchez this week, and this is a sentence being typed in 2018.
33.*Carson Wentz PHI at LAR
Note: Diagnosed with a fractured vertebrae in his back. Right now it's uncertain whether he'll be able to play, though he hasn't yet practiced this week. My rank reflects the notion that he won't play. ***Officially won't play this week.***
34.*Joe Flacco BAL vs. TB
Note: Lamar Jackson is projected to start, but Flacco will likely get some snaps, too. Jackson officially was named the starter ahead of Flacco even though Flacco has been medically cleared to play.
35.*Joshua Dobbs PIT vs. NE
Note: Really struggled in relief of Roethlisberger against the Raiders - completing four passes on nine attempts for 24 yards and an interception. He should be back to the bench this week.
36.*Mark Sanchez WAS at Jax
Note: His floor is the Marianas Trench.

Running Backs

1.Saquon Barkley NYG vs. Ten
2.*Ezekiel Elliott DAL at Ind
Note: Injured his neck against the Eagles but didn't have any lingering effects the following day. Full practice Thursday.
3.Todd Gurley LA vs. Phi
4.Alvin Kamara NO at Car
5.Christian McCaffrey CAR vs. NO
Note: Scored twice and had a third touchdown called back by a holding penalty. It's clear though, that they have no reservation about giving him goal line carries any longer.
6.Nick Chubb CLE at Den
7.Joe Mixon CIN vs. Oak
8.Leonard Fournette JAC vs. Was
9.Phillip Lindsay DEN vs. Cle
10.Chris Carson SEA at SF
11.Dalvin Cook MIN vs. Mia
12.Lamar Miller HOU at NYJ
13.*Justin Jackson LAC at KC
Note: Might end up being the starter, as it looks difficult at best for Ekeler and Gordon to play. Melvin Gordon is INACTIVE, so big bump up for Jackson.
14.Aaron Jones GB at Chi
15.Tarik Cohen CHI vs. GB
16.*David Johnson ARZ at Atl
Note: (Quad) Sat out practice Wednesday, limited practice Thursday. ***Removed from the injury list.***
17.Josh Adams PHI at LAR
Note: Had just seven carries in small part because the Eagles only ran 48 plays.
18.James White NE at Pit
19.Mark Ingram NO at Car
20.Sony Michel NE at Pit
21.*Damien Williams KC vs. LAC
Note: Next man up for the Chiefs. Should get significant playing time with Ware doubtful.
22.Derrick Henry TEN at NYG
23.Doug Martin OAK at Cin
24.Peyton Barber TB at Bal
25.*Elijah McGuire NYJ vs. Hou
Note: Missed practice Tuesday with an ankle injury. The Jets play on Saturday. Meanwhile, Crowell is in a walking boot. Removed from the injury list on Thursday. Crowell is out, and Cannon is listed as questionable. ***Crowell is now on IR for the season.***

31.Theo Riddick DET at Buf
32.*Adrian Peterson WAS at Jax
Note: (Shoulder) Limited practices Wednesday and Thursday.
33.*Jalen Richard OAK at Cin
Note: Injured his ribs in the win over the Steelers, but it's not expected to change his availability for this week against the Bengals. Not listed on Wednesday's practice report.
34.Jordan Howard CHI vs. GB
35.Nyheim Hines IND vs. Dal
36.*Matt Breida SF vs. Sea
Note: (Ankle) Limited at Wednesday's practice. ***Three limited practices this week, expected to play though he's still listed as questionable. My question however is he going to get a full load, or split it with Wilson? I lean towards the latter.***
37.Dion Lewis TEN at NYG
38.*Jeff Wilson SF vs. Sea
Note: ***Hurt by the return of Breida.***
39.Alfred Blue HOU at NYJ
40.*Marcus Murphy BUF vs. Det
Note: Could play a decent role this week with both McCoy and Ivory hurting. Ivory was able to fully practice Wednesday, which puts a damper on Murphy's prospects. ***McCoy not expected to play, Ivory up in the air.***
41.*Chris Thompson WAS at Jax
Note: ***Added to the injury list with an illness.***
42.Frank Gore MIA at Min
43.*Mike Davis SEA at SF

49.Duke Johnson CLE at Den
Note: Two carries, zero targets last week.
50.Darren Sproles PHI at LAR

63.Wayne Gallman NYG vs. Ten
64.Brandon Bolden MIA at Min

Note: Day-to-day after suffering a hamstring strain against the Jets. Sat out Wednesday, limited activity in Thursday's practice. ***Not expected to play.***
71.*James Conner PIT vs. NE

73.*Kerryon Johnson DET at Buf
Note: (Knee) Sat out practice Wednesday and Thursday. ***Ruled out.***
74.*Spencer Ware KC vs. LAC
Note: Missed practice Monday and Tuesday with a hamstring injury - doesn't look great for Thursday's game. Listed as doubtful.
75.*Melvin Gordon LAC at KC
Note: Coach Anthony Lynn is not optimistic that Gordon (knee) will be able to play Thursday night. However, there's some cause for optimism now that he got in a limited practice Tuesday. Traveled with the team and will test his knee in pregame warmups, but it 'will be challenging for him to play' Thursday night. ***INACTIVE.***
76.*Austin Ekeler LAC at KC
Note: (Concussion) Declared out.
77.*Isaiah Crowell NYJ vs. Hou
