2023 Fantasy Outlook
After the Ravens cut Clement last August, he remained available until the Cardinals came calling in October, when injuries impacted their backfield. He played almost exclusively on special teams in his first seven appearances with Arizona, but he got some regular work in the final two games of the campaign, finishing with 15 carries for 55 yards and one touchdown and five catches (on seven targets) for 54 yards. With no major additions to the RB room this offseason, James Conner remains the clear-cut No. 1 option, meaning 2022 sixth-rounder Keaontay Ingram and Clement represent Conner's immediate backups. Clement signed with the Giants in May, providing depth and versatility at running back. He reportedly made a push for the backup RB job early in camp, but then lost his momentum and ultimately was cut at the end of the preseason. The Cowboys jumped at the opportunity and picked up Clement, installing him as their No. 3 running back -- a role that mostly figures to be about special teams. Tony Pollard remains secure in his role as the No. 2 back behind Ezekiel Elliott.
Clement played just four games and saw all of three offensive snaps in 2019 before a shoulder injury suffered on special teams landed him on IR. After declining to tender the former undrafted free agent a contract, the Eagles brought him back at a reduced cost. The Super Bowl LII hero currently lines up at third on the running back depth chart behind only Miles Sanders and Boston Scott. If the 25-year-old can avoid injuries like the ones that have curtailed his past two seasons, Clement could be a factor in the Philadelphia offense this season.
A knee injury cut short Clement's 2018 season, but the second-year back hadn't been doing much to distinguish himself before that. The Eagles' crowded backfield did him no favors, as he saw double-digit carries twice in 11 games, though he also was less efficient with the touches he got. It's tough to say if his poor season was merely a product of the team's decline, or if Clement's struggles were a major contributing factor to that decline. At 5-10, 220, he's at his best grinding between the tackles but also displayed unexpected receiving chops during the 2017 Super Bowl run. The addition of Jordan Howard will limit goal-line chances, and Clement said he'll slim down to become quicker and more useful as a pass catcher. The Eagles drafted Miles Sanders in the second round and still have Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood and Josh Adams on the roster, so Clement will need a good summer to earn a key role.
An undrafted rookie out of Wisconsin last season, Clement initially made his mark on special teams, and when he did get his chances on offense he produced, scoring six touchdowns on only 84 touches. Clement is never going to be mistaken for a burner - he ran a 4.68 40-yard dash at the combine - but his low center of gravity and wide frame make him tough to bring down in short-yardage situations, and he has some surprising agility and elusiveness for a player his size (5-10, 220). Clement isn't a natural pass catcher, but he does appear competent as a pass blocker and at least didn't embarrass himself as a receiver. The midseason addition of Jay Ajayi and the re-signing of Darren Sproles leaves the Eagles' depth chart crowded, but Clement seems like the team's best option to spell Ajayi on early downs and in short-yardage spots. If the former Dolphin were to burn another bridge or run into more trouble with his balky knee, Clement could suddenly find himself with a lead role in a high-scoring offense.
Clement signed with his hometown team after going undrafted out of Wisconsin, where he rushed for 1,357 yards in his senior season. Prior to the signing of LeGarrette Blount, Clement was thought to have a good chance to make the Eagles' 53-man roster because at 5-10 and 220 pounds, the former Badger was the largest running back on the team. Clement isn't known for his pass-catching ability and will now have to contend with more multifaceted backs like Darren Sproles, Donnel Pumphrey and Byron Marshall in addition to Blount and the returning Wendell Smallwood in order to see playing time in 2017.
