DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Pekka Rinne, NSH at OTT ($8,000): Rinne has won four of his past five games despite the Predators missing key bodies in the lineup, and aside from the two games against the Canucks in which he allowed seven goals, he allowed just four goals in the other three games. Rinne made 25 saves in a 3-1 win against the Sens last Tuesday.

CENTER

William Karlsson, VGK at CLS ($6,100): Despite Max Pacioretty's return to the lineup, Karlsson has remained with the top power-play unit after scoring a PPG against the Devils on Friday. This is a good development for Karlsson, who continues to have an elite shooting percentage. Paul Stastny now leads the second unit, and as a more experienced and reliable two-way center, he will free up Karlsson for more offensive deployment. He was one of four players with more than two minutes of power-play time Sunday against the Rangers.

Mathew Barzal, NYI at COL ($5,100): Barzal carries a four-game point streak with a goal and four assists into Denver, and although it's taken awhile to adjust to Barry Trotz's new system, it seems all the kinks have been ironed out. Trotz's system may be restrictive, but he also realizes Barzal's at his best when he can freewheel with the puck.

WING

Mikko Rantanen, COL vs. NYI ($8,000): He has just one assist in four career games against the Islanders — how long's that going to last? Rantanen has 35 points in his past 21 games, including a three-point effort against the Stars on Friday and a four-point effort against the Oilers last Tuesday. Expected starter Robin Lehner has lost seven straight games.

Brendan Gallagher, MON vs. BOS ($6,200): Maybe the pucks will start going in soon, but Gallagher has always been one of the Habs' most consistent players. A match with a division rival will certainly see Gallagher at his pesky best, and in 26 career games against them, he's scored 20 points. Gallagher is a low-key high-volume shooter. Despite being on pace for 300 shots, Gallagher's shooting percentage remains well above 10 percent, meaning he's on pace for his second straight 30-goal season.

Ondrej Kase, ANA at PIT ($5,700): We're riding the hot streak with this one, with Kase scoring nine points in his past six games. By nearly all metrics, the third-year pro is on pace for a breakout season. He's averaging well over three shots per game and is already halfway to another 20-goal season and his shooting percentage is at a career-high 14.5 percent. Expected starter Matt Murray has allowed three goals or fewer just three times in 12 appearances this season.

DEFENSE

Thomas Chabot, OTT vs. NSH ($5,700): Despite scoring just two points in his past four games, Chabot has still produced over a point per game. The matchup isn't the best, but at this price and his giant role on the Sens' blue line, there's some value to be had. Chabot played nearly 27 minutes in their last matchup and has been more productive at home.

Jeff Petry, MON vs. BOS ($5,000): Petry's no Shea Weber, of course, but even with his minutes scaled back, he continues to be productive with a five-game scoring streak. He has eight points in eight games in December, and with the Habs' power play struggling, the difference in value between Weber and Petry can be negligible.
