FanDuel NHL: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

I hope you had a good weekend, because the NHL train doesn't stop. Or at least it rarely stops. There are three games on the slate for Monday, and here are my daily fantasy lineup recommendations.

GOALIE

Braden Holtby, WAS vs. LOS ($8,400): Holtby is having another down year, but I still have no fear about this matchup. The Kings have only scored 2.10 goals per game, and averaged a mere 28.9 shots on net per contest, on the road. Washington has scored 3.33 goals per game, so Holtby should also get the offensive support needed to pick up a win.

CENTER

Nicklas Backstrom, WAS vs. SAN ($6,100): Backstrom is a true power-play maven. He's averaged more than 3:00 per game with the extra man since his sophomore season, and he notched at least 26 power-play points in his last five campaigns. This year he has 20, and he could add more in this matchup, as the Kings have the 29th-ranked penalty kill.

Bo Horvat, VAN vs. SAN ($5,500): In the shadow of Calder favorite Elias Pettersson, Horvat is having a fine season. He's notched 19 goals on 163 shots and added 24 assists for good measure. The road has not been kind to the Sharks. Away from the friendly confines of their home arena, they have a 3.67 GAA.

WING

Brock Boeser, VAN vs. SAN ($6,800): Speaking of Pettersson, Boeser is currently skating on his wing. After tallying 29 goals in 62 games as a rookie, he has 19 goals in 43 contests this year. As I just noted, the Sharks have a 3.67 road GAA, which is sixth highest in the NHL.

Tyler Toffoli, LOS at WAS ($6,000): It's been a bleak year for the Kings offensively, but Toffoli has been a silver lining recently. He's got 10 points in his last nine games, including a four-game point streak. Though I recommended Holtby because of the Kings' offensive woes as a team, the fact remains that he has a 3.07 GAA.

Kevin Labanc, SAN at VAN ($4,000): Labanc, who is coming off his first career hat trick, has started 61.9 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone. That's highest among San Jose forwards. He's also notched 14 points on the power play. On the other hand, the Canucks have the 20th-ranked penalty kill.

DEFENSE

Drew Doughty, LOS at WAS ($5,600): Okay, so I feel a little odd about recommending two Kings after recommended Holtby in goal, but there are only six teams in action, and the collection of defenseman available Monday is pretty lackluster. Doughty, at least, has 16 power-play points. The Capitals have the 23rd-ranked penalty kill, so that bodes well for him, even if the Kings have only scored 2.10 goals per game on the road.

Ben Hutton, VAN vs. SAN ($3,800): With Alexander Edler out, Hutton's minutes are up, especially on the power play. He's notched two points in his last three games, giving him 19 on the season. As previously mentioned, the Sharks have a 3.67 GAA on the road, and as a team they have a .893 save percentage overall.
