Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Saturday's all-day NHL slate is action-packed, with 12 games on tap after 1:00 PM Eastern time. Read on to see which guys stand out as the top value plays among the multitude of available options and which players should be avoided.

GOALIE

Carter Hart, PHI vs. DET ($33): Hart had an eight-game winning streak snapped by the Penguins in his last start, but the standout rookie gets a great chance to start a new streak here. The visiting Red Wings average the sixth-fewest goals per game (2.76) and they're just 11-15-3 on the road. Wins aren't all Hart's good for, as evidenced by his excellent 2.48 GAA and .924 save percentage.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Carey Price, MON at TB ($37): Price enjoyed a seven-game winning streak recently, but he's dropped two straight since then, with seven goals allowed between these two most recent outings. Getting back on track will be exceedingly difficult against the Lightning's league-best offense (3.88 goals per game).

CENTER

Teddy Blueger, PIT vs. CGY ($15): Blueger has dominated the AHL with 21 goals and 39 points in 45 appearances this season. He's carried that success over to the highest level, where the 24-year-old Latvian has added another three goals and one assist through seven games. Blueger's scoring ability makes him a nice upside play at $15, and he likely won't stay this affordable for long if he keeps producing.

CENTER TO AVOID

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, EDM at NYI ($20): Nugent-Hopkins has scored negative fantasy points in each of his last two games, and he's been held below 3.0 in five of the past nine. His struggles are likely to continue against the league's stingiest defensive team (2.30 goals allowed per game), especially with Edmonton playing the second leg of a road back-to-back.

WINGS

Blake Wheeler, WPG vs. EDM ($28): Wheeler takes his game to another level at Bell MTS Place. Since the start of last season, he has 23 goals, 102 points and a plus-29 rating in 72 home games compared to 12 goals, 57 points and a minus-9 rating in 67 road contests. The sky's the limit for him in this home matchup with a Senators team that's surrendering 3.65 goals per game -- most in the NHL.

Kasperi Kapanen, TOR at ARI ($17): Kapanen moved into a top-six role after Andreas Johnsson suffered a leg injury Thursday in Vegas, and he made the most of the opportunity. In addition to skating a season-high 20:25 of ice time, Kapanen extended his point streak to three games with his second consecutive multi-point effort. Johnsson's already been ruled out for this one, paving the way for another strong Kapanen performance against a Coyotes club that's likely to be overmatched against Toronto's highly skilled group of skaters.

WINGS TO AVOID

Gabriel Landeskog, COL vs. STL ($28): Landeskog finally potted his 30th goal Thursday, but that effort was preceded by an eight-game goal drought that also featured an ugly minus-6 rating. The Swedish winger has displayed a low floor of late with only three performances of more than 1.8 fantasy points in his past nine games, and that floor could well come into play against a Blues team that features standout netminder Jordan Binnington (1.69 GAA, .931 save percentage).

Alex Tuch, VGK vs. NSH ($19): Tuch's gone ice cold of late, with no points and a minus-6 rating over his past seven games. A date with a Nashville team that's holding opponents to 2.57 goals per game probably isn't what the doctor ordered for the slumping forward.

DEFENSEMEN

Alex Pietrangelo, STL at COL ($20): Pietrangelo's put together his best three-game stretch of the season heading into this one, with three goals, an assist, a plus-6 rating, nine shots and 11 blocks. He gets a great opportunity to keep rolling in this battle of teams heading in opposite directions, as the surging Blues take on an Avalanche club that's won just once in its past nine games. Colorado's also struggled on the penalty kill this season (76.5 percent), and Pietrangelo's role on the Blues' top power-play unit puts him in position to capitalize on that weakness.

Zach Werenski, CLS at CHI ($17): Werenski's chipped in nine goals and 30 points in 56 games, with a third of those points coming on the power play. That's strong production for a $17 blueliner, and Werenski's poised to add to his scoring totals against a Blackhawks team that's surrendering the second-most goals per game (3.62) while successfully defending the lowest percentage of opposing power plays (73.4).

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

John Klingberg, DAL at CAR ($21): An injury scare after blocking a shot limited Klingberg to just 16:22 of ice time in his last game, and he's been struggling for a while now with just one goal and one assist over his past eight games. Dallas is just 11-15-3 on the road, so don't count on Klingberg turning things around here.

Tyson Barrie, COL vs. STL ($19): Like his teammate Landeskog, Barrie has an uncomfortably high chance of getting stonewalled by Binnington. Such a result wouldn't come as a surprise considering Barrie has just two points and a minus-10 rating in his past nine games.
