FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

March ends with six NHL games on Sunday. You can play an evening slate if you want, but I want to cover the full slate, because the 12:30 PM ET game is the Flyers against the Rangers. Philly is on the second day of a back-to-back and New York is awful on the road, so it's a matchup really worth exploiting if you can get a lineup in before the puck drops. Here are my recommendations.

GOALIE

Darcy Kuemper, ARI vs. MIN ($8,000): Kuemper hasn't been getting a ton of offensive support, but he's posted an 1.87 GAA and .938 save percentage over his last 15 games. Plus, at home during that time, his save percentage is a staggering .952. Fortunately for Kuemper, the Wild sit right above the Coyotes in the bottom-five in goals scored per game.

CENTER

Mikael Backlund, CGY at SAN ($5,900): Backlund has been really prolific recently, with seven points and 41 shots on goal in his last 11 games. San Jose's goalies enter with a league-worst .889 save percentage, and are also on the second night of a back-to-back.

Ryan Strome, NYR at PHI ($4,600): Strome hasn't done quite as well as his brother Dylan since being traded, but he's notched 29 points in 58 games after moving to New York - with six points in his last seven contests. While the Flyers 3.32 GAA is largely from a time when Carter Hart and Brian Elliott weren't available, the fact they are playing their second game in as many days does not bode well for them defensively.

WING

James van Riemsdyk, PHI vs. NYR ($6,500): Van Riemsdyk has started 54.7 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest among Flyers forwards. He's also notched 26 goals in 62 games. The Rangers, meanwhile, come in with a 3.87 road GAA, and have given up 35.8 shots on net per contest in those matchups.

Ryan Dzingel, CLM at BUF ($4,800): Dzingel is skating alongside his Ottawa teammate Matt Duchene, and it's worked out pretty well for the former Senator. He's set new career highs with 25 goals and 53 points, and he's registered three points over his last five games. Now he gets about as good of a matchup as you can find right now, as the Sabres have slumped with a 3.89 GAA since the All-Star break and are playing on the second day of a back-to-back.

Marcus Johansson, BOS at DET ($4,300): Johansson has been given the chance to skate on Boston's top line alongside Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. That certainly bodes well for his fantasy potential. It also helps the Red Wings have posted a 3.33 GAA since the All-Star break.

DEFENSE

Torey Krug, BOS at DET ($6,400): Krug looked no worse for the wear in his return from a lengthy absence, notching three assists in two games since returning. He's also a power-play maven, with 30 man-advantage points in 60 games. In addition to their issues since the All-Star break, the Red Wings own the 27th-ranked penalty kill.

Zach Werenski, CLM at BUF ($5,300): Werenski has tallied 43 points this season, including 15 with the extra man. As previously noted, the Sabres have struggled with a 3.89 GAA since the All-Star break and are on the second day of a back-to-back. And March has turned out even worse for them, having recorded a 4.00 GAA.
