DraftKings NHL: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Joey Daccord, OTT at BUF ($6,500): Daccord will be the first Arizona State grad to play in the NHL after Pierre Dorion announced he would start against the Sabres, wasting no time in throwing him into the fire. The seventh-round pick wrapped up a brilliant junior season before signing and there's not much of a scouting report on him, but we do know the Sabres' offense has been atrocious since March 1, scoring just 32 in 17 games and winning twice. Daccord's a risk but the price can't be beat.

CENTER

Leon Draisaitl, EDM vs. SJ ($7,100): He's still a step down from Connor McDavid ($7,700) but the $600 discount isn't bad for a difference of roughly 0.2 points per game, and Draisaitl has also scored six more goals. The Sharks are in a real funk at the moment, and though there's still no guarantee the Oilers will win, expected starter Martin Jones has lost six of his past seven decisions and an ugly .896 save percentage.

Andreas Athanasiou, DET at PIT ($5,500): The Pens are still without their top two defenders, Kris Letang and Brian Dumoulin, and that's great news for the suddenly red-hot Red Wings. They've won six straight games thanks mostly to their offense, with Athanasiou scoring four points in his past three games and playing alongside rookie Taro Hirose ($3,000), who has six points in eight games.

WING

Brad Marchand, BOS at MIN ($7,500): Two points against the Blue Jackets gave him 100 on the season, and for the third season in a row he's leading his team in scoring. The league's most hated pest is also a terrific offensive player and comes $100 cheaper than David Pastrnak, making him the cheapest elite winger before the level of production falls off a cliff.

Teuvo Teravainen, CAR vs. NJ ($5,300): I really like this matchup for the Hurricanes because a) they can clinch a playoff spot with a win so they should be plenty hungry and b) the Devils are basically dressing half their AHL team no thanks to all of their injuries. Teravainen is very attractive at this price and seems like a better investment than Jeff Skinner ($5,800) or Evgenii Dadonov ($5,900).

Tyler Bertuzzi, DET at PIT ($4,500): Bertuzzi's fourth straight three-point game set a franchise record, and playing alongside Dylan Larkin has suddenly given them a formidable No. 1 scoring line, if only in the short-term. It's a fair price for Bertuzzi, but if he can continue his hot streak – keeping in mind the Pens' injury woes – this is still a good opportunity to buy low.

DEFENSE

Jacob Trouba, WPG at COL ($5,500): Trouba remains on the top power play unit, making him a better pick than Dustin Byfuglien ($5,900) to go up against the league's 26th-ranked penalty kill. It didn't matter much last game because Trouba scored shorthanded, but he remains a do-it-all player for the Jets and will continue to play a lot as they jostle for playoff position. Paul Maurice played him just 19 minutes in a blowout win so expect Trouba to play more this game.

Mikhail Sergachev, TB at TOR ($4,400): He's a young offensive talent who just had a three-game point streak snapped against the Habs, but over the past three games has played a big role for the Lightning, averaging over 22 minutes per game. With the record for wins out of reach and the Presidents' Trophy locked up, this is a chance for Jon Cooper to give Sergachev more ice time without having to worry too much. The Leafs are tough at home, but there's lots of upside to be had and Sergachev offers a lot of upside.
