Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Saturday's season-ending NHL slate begins at 1:00 PM Eastern time and features 15 games. There's still some jostling going on for playoff seeding, but it's important to keep an eye out for teams resting prominent players, especially those that are already locked into their spot in the standings. Below, you'll find the last group of players to target and avoid in the regular season, but make sure to come back for Yahoo!'s postseason NHL DFS contests.

GOALIE

Jimmy Howard, DET vs. BUF ($27): While neither will make the playoffs, these two teams are heading in opposite directions down the stretch. The Sabres are doing that all-too-familiar losing thing with a 2-7-1 record in their past 10 games, while the Red Wings have integrated young players and battled hard en route to an 8-2-0 mark in their last 10. Make sure Howard's in net before locking him in, but he should provide strong value at $27 if he plays.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Philipp Grubauer, COL at SJ ($36): Grubauer propelled the Avalanche to the playoffs with a late-season hot streak, but there's a chance of a letdown now that Colorado's clinched. It doesn't help that he's facing a Sharks team that ranks third offensively at 3.51 goals per game.

CENTER

Ryan Johansen, NSH vs. CHI ($17): The Predators can still finish anywhere from first to third in the hyper-competitive Central Division, so they should have all hands on deck for this matchup with a lottery-bound Blackhawks team that's finishing up a back-to-back set. That includes Johansen, who leads the team with 16 points on the power play. The first-line center also brings a two-game goal streak into this one and will be looking to build further momentum against Chicago's league-worst penalty kill heading into the postseason.

CENTER TO AVOID

Patrice Bergeron, BOS vs. TB ($34): Rarely has Bergeron been a bad pick in a Bruins home game, but there's a good chance he's either rested or used sparingly with Boston locked into second place in the Atlantic Division. While the Lightning could rest some regulars as well, Tampa's still in the midst of a historically good season that includes a plus-100 goal differential.

WINGS

Jonathan Huberdeau, FLA vs. NJ ($24): The Panthers are finishing strong, and so is Huberdeau. Florida has gone 3-0-1 in its past four games, coinciding with a Huberdeau point streak that's featured four goals and two assists. Huberdeau's primed to cap his best season on a high note against a Devils team that comes in with a league-worst road record of 10-27-3.

Jake Guentzel, PIT vs. NYR ($26): The Penguins are one of the handful of teams with something to play for on the season's last day, as the third-place team in the Metropolitan Division sits two points behind the Islanders and two ahead of the Hurricanes. Guentzel will also be highly motivated to score on a personal note, as he needs just one more goal to reach 40 for the first time. He's been pushing for the milestone hard with three-plus shots in each of his last six games, and Guentzel has a great opportunity to get there against a Rangers team that's a dreadful 13-22-5 on the road.

WINGS TO AVOID

Tom Wilson, WAS vs. NYI ($19): Wilson has slowed down late in the year, failing to record a multi-point game over his past 17 while totaling only four goals and three assists in that stretch. Turning things around will be difficult against an Islanders team that has held opponents to a league-low 2.36 goals per game.

Zachary Senyshyn, BOS vs. TB ($28): Senyshyn should be avoided for a different reason than Bergeron. While the youngster will almost certainly play in this one, he's drastically overpriced at $28 after scoring an empty-net goal over 12:41 of ice time in his NHL debut Thursday.

DEFENSEMEN

Zach Werenski, CLS at OTT ($17): This game is a lot less meaningful now that Columbus has clinched a playoff berth, but Werenski remains a high-ceiling option at $17. He's in the midst of a third consecutive season with 11-plus goals and has a solid 44 points and 15 power-play points this season. Werenski gets a golden opportunity to pad those totals against the league's worst defensive team (3.63 goals allowed per game).

Quinn Hughes, VAN at STL ($15): It's very possible this is the cheapest Hughes will ever be, and Vancouver's more than capable of playing spoiler in St. Louis. At just $15, the seventh overall selection from the 2018 draft -- who has three points in his first four games -- makes for a strong against-the-grain play.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Mark Giordano, CGY vs. EDM ($27): Giordano will get heavy Norris Trophy consideration, but he likely won't get an opportunity to further his case in the finale. The Flames have given their captain plenty of rest down the stretch, and Giordano likely won't play his usual allotment of minutes even he suits up.

Kevin Shattenkirk, NYR at PIT ($18): Shattenkirk will be happy to see this disappointing campaign come to a close, and he's unlikely to end it on a high note as the Rangers complete a back-to-back to cap off the season. He has just 27 points and a minus-17 rating, including a minus-4 mark over an active seven-game point drought.
