Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

GOALIE

MacKenzie Blackwood, NJ vs. ANH ($27): Blackwood is red-hot with a .965 save percentage over his past four appearances, but the lack of offensive support leaves him with just win in that stretch. The Ducks have averaged 2.2 goals per game over the last six, and it may be easier for the Devils to score against the Ducks, affording Blackwood excellent upside at the price.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Corey Crawford, CHI vs. COL ($28): Crawford produced a stellar streak in November, but it ended when he was lit up for five goals on 23 shots by the Avalanche on Nov. 29. Since then, he's gone 1-3-0 with an .893 save percentage. The Avalanche are coming to town again, and they've ranked fourth in the league with 3.23 GF/60 over the last month, per Natural Stat Trick.

CENTER

Nathan MacKinnon, COL at CHI ($35): Pay up and enjoy the ride. MacKinnon has scored a point in 13 of his last 14 outings, including seven points over the last two games against the Blackhawks. Chicago has yielded 3.43 GA/60 over the last month, and it doesn't hurt that its penalty kill is awful at 75.0 percent (29th).

CENTER TO AVOID

Ryan O'Reilly, STL vs. EDM ($21): O'Reilly has been highly productive again this year, although the goals haven't followed. Especially at home. Over 18 games at the Enterprise Center, O'Reilly hasn't lit the lamp while firing just 20 shots on net. The tough sledding is poised to continue against Edmonton's 2.63 goals allowed per road game -- the fourth-best in the league.

WINGS

Andre Burakovsky, COL at CHI ($16): Burakovsky was outstanding in a top-line role earlier this year and he'll enjoy that luxury again with MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. The 24-year-old has generated a 54.7 Corsi For percentage this year as well, putting him in line for hefty production against Chicago's suspect crease.

Robert Thomas, STL vs. EDM ($15): Thomas is gaining confidence and looks like he may become a staple in the Blues' future. The 20-year-old has recorded a goal and five helpers over the past five games, and he starts 58.8 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone this year. He's notched a point in three of four games against Edmonton, too, making him a high-upside play.

WINGS TO AVOID

Blake Coleman, NJ vs. ANH ($17): Coleman is probably cash-game viable due to his shot volume, but the 28-year-old lacks tournament-winning upside. He's notched just two assists over the last eight games while notching a minus-3 rating. Not having Taylor Hall around will keep defense's attention on him as well.

James Neal, EDM at STL ($15): I'm not ready to call Neal's early-season surge a mirage. I'd even be comfortable predicting he hits 25 goals still. But his 48.6 Corsi For percentage screams regression, and he's lit the lamp just once in the last 10 games. He averaged 1.9 shots on net per game in that span, and his season-long minus-16 rating leaves an undesirable floor.

DEFENSE

Oscar Klefbom, EDM at STL ($20): Klefbom's minus-18 rating is a liability, but his 113 blocked shots and 94 shots on net make up for it on Klefbom's floor. The 26-year-old also starts 56.1 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, and he's capitalized on the opportunities lately with a goal and two helpers in three games.

Erik Gustafsson, CHI vs. COL ($15): Gustafsson's on a three-game point streak, and he put up seven shots on net in that span. The Blackhawks continue to afford him substantial chances as well, starting 56.7 percent of shifts in the offensive zone.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Cam Fowler, ANH at NJ ($18): Fowler has mustered up just one point over the past eight games, and he managed just one shot on net in four of those contests. The state of New Jersey's crease is better than usual, so Fowler doesn't fit the mold of one of the most-expensive options in this slate.

Vince Dunn, STL vs. EDM ($17): Dunn lit the lamp for the first time in 11 games during Monday's win against Colorado, and his opportunities remain limited on the bottom pairing, averaging 16:10 of ice time per contest. The Oilers haven't allowed a goal to a blueliner in five games, either, making it difficult for Dunn to reach his ceiling.
