Tuesday's expansive NHL slate begins at 7:00 PM Eastern time and features 12 games. Below, you'll find an overview of the matchups and suggested options for crafting an effective lineup.
SLATE PREVIEW
The Canadiens will be heavily favored in Detroit, while the Capitals are likely to dominate the Senators in the battle of capital cities in Washington. Those are far from the only sources of value in this slate, as Coyotes-Panthers, Canucks-Lightning and Avalanche-Rangers all feature a top-five offense.
GOALIES
Braden Holtby ($8,500) will be the chalk choice in net, as his Capitals will be heavy favorites at home against a bottom-10 Ottawa offense that's scoring only 2.79 goals per game. While Holtby has hit a bit of a rut recently with 16 goals allowed over his past four starts, this is the perfect opportunity to turn things around.
Charlie Lindgren ($7,700) is likely to get the start in net for Montreal after Carey Price got the nod Monday. Whomever the Canadiens start will be primed for success against the last-place Red Wings, who average the fewest goals in the league (2.14).
Whether the Hurricanes start Petr Mrazek ($7,700) or James Reimer ($7,700), the team's goalie will be well positioned for a good result in Carolina against a Flyers team that's just 9-13-1 on the road this season. Mrazek is 16-10-2 with a 2.74 GAA while Reimer's 8-6-0 with a 2.69 mark.
With MacKenzie Blackwood potentially sidelined by an illness, Louis Domingue ($7,000) is a sneaky cheap upside play in net for the Devils against an Islanders team that's finishing up a back-to-back set. New York has mustered just two total goals in its last three games, and the Islanders have won only three of their last eight.
VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS
The league's best offense is set to thrive against a Rangers team that's allowing 3.32 goals per game, especially with New York having dropped three straight in regulation and giving rookie goalie Igor Shesterkin his NHL debut in this one. Mikko Rantanen ($6,900) could be the guy to lead the charge for Colorado, even more so than teammate Nathan MacKinnon ($8,500). Rantanen has four goals in his last three games and would be on pace for a third consecutive season over 80 points if not for injuries.
Bo Horvat ($5,400) broke 60 points for the first time last season, and the Canucks pivot is on pace to push for 70 this year thanks to a torrid recent stretch that's seen him rack up a 2-5-7 line over an active three-game point streak. He should stay hot in what promises to be a high-scoring affair in Tampa Bay.
Andrei Svechnikov ($5,800) is tied for the Hurricanes' team lead in points with Teuvo Teravainen, as both wingers have 41 in 42 games. The Russian's line includes 18 goals while Teravainen has lit the lamp only eight times, and Svechnikov is primed to add to his production at home against the Flyers, who have struggled mightily outside of Philadelphia.
Noel Acciari ($4,300) could turn into a terrific value play against a Coyotes team that will likely have to resort to third-stringer Adin Hill in net due to injuries ahead of him. The affordable Panthers winger just logged the best 10-game goal-scoring stretch of his career, lighting the lamp nine times since Dec. 16.
FORWARD LINE STACKS
Canadiens at Red Wings
Phillip Danault (C - $5,000), Tomas Tatar (W - $5,900), Ilya Kovalchuk (W - $3,500)
As is almost always the case when the Red Wings take the ice, it's recommended to stack against Detroit. Montreal's top line has more than enough talent to thrive against a Detroit defense that's permitting a league-high 3.81 goals per game. Tatar leads the team in both goals (16) and points (37) through 43 games, Danault has a solid 10-20-30 line and the affordable Kovalchuk posted a helper in his team debut Monday. The latter will be motivated to prove he still has something left in the tank, so expect his price to climb quickly.
Capitals vs. Senators
Nicklas Backstrom (C - $6,400), Alex Ovechkin (W - $8,100), Tom Wilson (W - $4,800)
The Senators play hard, but they just lack talent compared to their opponents most nights, and that will certainly be the case against Washington's star-studded top line. Backstrom has missed eight of Washington's 43 games but has still managed to produce an 8-24-32 line, which is right in line with his career pace of nearly a point per game. Ovechkin finds himself in the thick of the Rocket Richard Trophy chase as usual with 24 goals already, while Wilson's on pace to break 25 goals with a 13-14-27 line.
Coyotes at Panthers
Christian Dvorak (C - $4,300), Taylor Hall (W - $6,700), Conor Garland (W - $4,500)
Arizona's offense will need to step up with the team battling injuries in net, and a date with a Florida team that's allowing 3.29 goals per game presents a nice opportunity to do so. Hall has a 2-4-6 line in nine games since being traded over from the Devils but is capable of putting the team on his back at any moment as he did with New Jersey two years ago. Garland leads the Coyotes with 14 goals, while Dvorak's 10-15-25 line in 44 games has the 2014 second-rounder ready to push for his first 50-point season.
DEFENSEMEN
Shea Weber ($7,000) doesn't come cheap, but his upside is monstrous in this most favorable of matchups. Montreal's best player should dominate the Red Wings, laying a solid base of shots and blocks while likely adding to his 12-20-32 line.
GPP players who take a gamble paying up for Roman Josi ($7,200) in a tough home matchup against Boston could be handsomely rewarded given his outstanding recent form. Josi has a 10-game point streak going, with a 7-11-18 line and 35 shots over that stretch, and he's over a point per game for the season with a 14-30-44 line in 41 contests.
Sticking in the Bruins-Predators game, Boston's Torey Krug ($5,400) is a strong choice in all formats against Nashville's 29th-ranked, 74.0 percent penalty kill. Krug has been tremendous when healthy, with 28 points in 35 games, 17 of which have come with the extra man.
If the Avalanche are a step slow on the second leg of a back-to-back, Rangers rookie defenseman Adam Fox ($3,500) will make them pay. The Harvard product thinks the game a step ahead of most players and consistently springs teammates open with outstanding passes, leading to five assists in Fox's last three games and a 5-17-22 line through 41 games overall.
