Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

There's nothing like a busy day on the NHL schedule for a hockey fan. Tuesday delivers, as there are 12 games on the slate. You will have a ton of options for your daily fantasy lineup. To ease your decision making, here are some players to target, and to avoid, for your DFS hockey contests.

GOALIE

John Gibson, ANA vs. CLM ($28): The Blue Jackets are on the road for the second game of a back-to-back, they are dealing with injuries at forward, and they also rank in the bottom five in goals per contest. All of that is encouraging from Gibson's perspective. The American goalie's overall numbers aren't great, but at home he has a 2.60 GAA and .915 save percentage.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Jacob Markstrom, VAN at TAM ($30): Markstrom has played well recently, but it's been mostly home starts. On the road, he has a 2.80 GAA this season, though with an adequate .914 save percentage. That's not enough in this matchup. The Lightning have scored 3.53 goals per game, top five in the NHL.

CENTER

Ryan O'Reilly, STL vs. SAN ($21): O'Reilly is shooting less and only has eight goals, but he's notched 30 assists in 43 games. He's also got 11 points in his last 11 contests. While the Sharks inexplicably have the league's top penalty kill, they still have a 3.34 GAA and .889 save percentage.

CENTER TO AVOID

Logan Couture, SAN at STL ($23): Couture is having a good year, even though he strangely has zero power-play points in his last 23 games. Don't expect anything from him with the extra man here. My expectation is that Couture will have a tough night either way, because Jordan Binnington has a 2.55 GAA and .916 save percentage.

WING

Teuvo Teravainen, CAR vs. PHI ($23): Teravainen has had bad puck luck and is saddled with a 6.7 percent shooting rate. Regression in that department could be arriving soon, but even so he still has 41 points in 42 games. He's also been strong on the power play, racking up 17 points with the extra man. The Flyers have a 3.77 road GAA, so it may not be surprising they have the 22nd-ranked penalty kill as well.

Jakub Vrana, WAS vs. OTT ($20): With three goals over his last two games, Vrana now has 18 goals in 43 contests. The 23-year-old is enjoying a breakout campaign on a line with Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie. The Senators have not had a breakout season defensively, as they have a 3.36 GAA, third highest in the NHL.

WINGS TO AVOID

Filip Forsberg, NAS vs. BOS ($22): Even at home, I don't like this matchup for Forsberg. Tuukka Rask has a 2.20 GAA and a .926 save percentage on the road. The Bruins also have the second-ranked penalty kill.

Jakub Voracek, PHI at CAR ($17): Voracek doesn't shoot the puck much, as he only has 69 shots on goal in 42 games. He does have eight goals, but that's with 11.6 percent shooting that is the second highest of his career. The Hurricanes are excellent at suppressing shots, as they've only given up 28.9 shots on net per contest.

DEFENSE

Mark Giordano, CGY at CHI ($21): Giordano finally ended his goal drought, as he tallied his fifth goal of the season Sunday. What the defenseman has done is put pucks on net, as he has 111 shots on goal in 44 contests. The Blackhawks have been quite generous defensively, as they've allowed 36.0 shots on net per contest. Maybe another goal will be in the offing for the reigning Norris winner.

Jeff Petry, MON at DET ($17): Yes, Petry is on the road for the second game of a back-to-back, but I don't care. The Red Wings have a 3.81 GAA. New Jersey, the team with the second-highest GAA, is closer to the team in 14th in GAA than it is to Detroit. Plus, Petry is no slouch, as he has nine points in his last eight games.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Thomas Chabot, OTT at WAS ($19): Chabot has logged a ton of minutes for the Senators, and he's tallied 25 points in 42 games. He's also notched seven points on the power play, all assists. Like a lot of goalies, Braden Holtby has been better on home ice, as he has a 2.66 GAA and .912 save percentage at home. On top of that, the Capitals have a top-five penalty kill, and that includes the games on the road that haven't gone as well.

Shea Theodore, VGK vs. PIT ($18): Theodore has been hot recently, but I think that will not be the case Tuesday night. I'm assuming Tristan Jarry will be in net, and he has a 1.99 GAA and .935 save percentage. The Penguins also have a top-10 penalty kill, and nine of Theodore's 25 points have come on the power play.
