Tuesday's NHL slate begins at 7:00 PM Eastern time and features 13 games. Below, you'll find an overview of the matchups and suggested options for crafting an effective lineup.
SLATE PREVIEW
Some teams will have new toys acquired at Monday's trade deadline to play with, while others will be relying on familiar and dependable options. The Devils have served as opponents' punching bags for most of the season, but they should be the ones throwing haymakers in Detroit. The Flyers are primed to continue their home dominance against the Sharks, while the Predators will host a tired and depleted Senators team. Those are just a few of many intriguing sources of value in this slate, which also includes a clash of top-two offenses between Toronto and Tampa Bay, as well as the Oilers incorporating some new bodies in Anaheim.
GOALIES
MacKenzie Blackwood ($7,800) has won each of his last six starts while allowing just seven goals over that dominant stretch. The Devils netminder is a great option against one of the few teams worse than his own, as the Red Wings are averaging a league-worst 2.00 goals per game.
Alex Stalock ($7,700) will try to extend the Blue Jackets' recent struggles, as Columbus' lone win in its last nine games came Monday in overtime against a Senators team that sold off earlier in the day and was scrambling just to fill out a lineup. The Wild netminder's recent form suggests he'll be successful, as Stalock's 6-2-1 with two shutouts in his last nine starts.
Carter Hart ($8,300) is leading the Flyers' playoff push with a 6-2-0 record in his last eight starts and no more than two goals allowed in any of the wins. He should stay hot against a visiting Sharks team that's averaging a paltry 2.53 goals per game — fourth-fewest in the league.
VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS
Connor McDavid ($8,100) wasted no time rounding back into form in his return to the lineup Sunday after missing six games due to a quadriceps injury, delivering a goal, two assists and six shots in Los Angeles. An equally dominant performance is likely forthcoming from him against another underwhelming Californian opponent in Anaheim. McDavid has a 31-53-84 line in 56 games this season and should have more talent to work with on his line following Edmonton's acquisition of speedy winger Andreas Athanasiou ($4,500) from Detroit.
Steven Stamkos ($7,300) has at least one point in each of his last 14 appearances, managing a 12-9-21 line over that stretch to bring his season line to 29-36-65 in 56 games. The streaking winger should work well as a stand-alone option or part of a larger Lightning stack against a Toronto team that's allowing 3.27 goals per game.
The Islanders just sent a boatload of picks to Ottawa for Jean-Gabriel Pageau ($5,600), and the center has a great opportunity to make an impact in his first game with his new club. He's always loved to face the Rangers, producing a four-goal playoff game against them, as well as a 6-7-13 line in 17 regular-season meetings — tied for the most points he has against any opponent, despite not even being in the same division. Assuming the Canadian center can get an American work visa by Tuesday, he should be a nice value option.
Joe Pavelski ($5,000) has turned up the heat this month, producing a 6-4-10 line through 10 February games. He'll look to keep rolling against a Hurricanes team that beefed up its defense corps at the deadline but is missing its top two goalie options due to injuries.
FORWARD LINE STACKS
Flyers vs. Sharks
Sean Couturier (C - $6,400), Jakub Voracek (W - $4,600), Claude Giroux (W - $5,500)
Philadelphia bolstered its forward depth for the stretch run, but this top trio should remain intact for this juicy home matchup against a Sharks team that's allowing 3.26 goals per game — sixth-most in the league. The Flyers have dominated on home ice to the tune of a 21-5-4 record, and this line should lead them to another win at Wells Fargo Center. Couturier leads the team with 55 points in 62 games, while Giroux ranks third with 47 and Voracek is fourth with 46.
Predators vs. Senators
Colton Sissons (C - $2,900), Filip Forsberg (W - $6,000), Mikael Granlund (W - $4,700)
This one could get ugly for Ottawa, as the Senators are finishing up a back-to-back and have one of the worst rosters in the NHL for the post-deadline stretch run. Forsberg is Nashville's best forward, leading the team with 18 goals while ranking second to Roman Josi in points with 42. Granlund has a 5-3-8 line in his last 10 games, while Sissons is a great value option and didn't look out of place on this line with a goal on six shots in his last game.
Devils at Red Wings
Nico Hischier (C - $5,300), Jack Hughes (W - $4,400), Kyle Palmieri (W - $5,900)
There's bad and then there's Red Wings bad. While every other team has at least 50 points, Detroit is languishing at the bottom of the standings with just 34. The Red Wings are allowing a league-worst 3.73 goals per game, and they theoretically should be even worse moving forward after selling off Monday. This line consisting of New Jersey's leading scorer and two of the last three first overall picks should capitalize on this favorable matchup. Palmieri's 22-20-42 line is good for tops on the Devils in both goals and points. Hischier has a respectable 13-20-33 line in 50 appearances, and the team is hoping a temporary move to the wing will help the rookie Hughes unlock more offense by reducing his focus on the defensive responsibilities that come with playing center.
DEFENSEMEN
Roman Josi ($7,300) should be the best player on the ice against a Senators team that's allowing 3.35 goals per game and likely to get worse moving forward. The star blueliner has a 14-43-57 line in 61 games to easily lead Nashville in points.
Victor Hedman ($6,000) has a 9-42-51 line in 60 games and is playing at a point-per-game pace over the past nine. The 2018 Norris Trophy winner should continue to make an impact on the scoresheet in what promises to be a high-scoring battle against Toronto.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson ($4,000) is having a down year, as his 7-18-25 line has him on pace to fall short of 39 points for this first time in the past seven seasons. The Coyotes defenseman is capable of picking up the pace down the stretch, however, and that could start with this home game against a Panthers club that's allowing the second-most goals per game (3.37).
Mike Green ($3,400) was having a down year in Detroit, but who on that team wasn't? Acquired by the Oilers at the trade deadline and expected to jump right onto their top power-play unit, the two-time 70-point scorer could be a nice buy-low candidate in Anaheim.
