Connor Carrick

Carrick is a classic fantasy seat filler. You know, the person who slips into empty seats at award shows so video/TV cameras see a full audience when they pan the crowds. Carrick delivered 12 points in 47 games in 2017-18, but he was a healthy scratch in the postseason. Coach Mike Babcock just didn't trust him. Gulp. Carrick is still just 24 years old and a rare right shot. He's an above-average defensive defenseman, and Carrick's shot suppression numbers were the best among Leaf defenders last year. Furthermore, his 52 percent possession rating was also very good. He won't have much fantasy value, but if given the chance, he should help goaltender Freddy Andersen.

A surprise selection for the Capitals’ opening night roster for the 2013-2014 season, the 20-year-old Carrick had an interesting rookie season in the professional ranks. His puck-moving skills earned him 34 games with the Capitals in 2013-2014, where he recorded a goal and five assists. Carrick also joined fellow Caps prospect Riley Barber on Team USA for the IIHF Under-20 World Junior Championships in Sweden. Carrick possesses some top-6 upside in the NHL ranks, but is likely to spend the balance of 2014-2015 in Hershey of the AHL, but may see some games as an injury call-up.

Carrick is a dark horse to make the NHL roster in 2013-2014 but as the preseason ends, all signs indicate he will be in Washington to start the season. The 19-year old from Michigan is just 5' 10", weighing a mere 197 pounds but he has impressed during training camp. His fantasy value is marginal at best to start the season.
