Burgos defeated Charles Jourdain via majority decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-28) at UFC on ABC 3 on Saturday on Long Island.
ANALYSIS
It was the action-packed fight most everyone expected. Common wisdom suggested Burgos and Jourdain would go toe-to-toe on the feet, but Burgos flipped the script and did his best work on the mat. He landed 2-of-7 takedown attempts, good for 6:25 worth of control time. It's a good thing he did because Jourdain proved to be the faster and more consistent striker throughout the course of the fight. Burgos ended up on the short end of a 161-67 count in total strikes landed, including an overwhelming 115-27 mark in Round 3. Still, two of the three judges felt he did enough over the course of the first ten minutes to earn the win. Burgos stated after the bout that this was the final fight on his current UFC contract and he hopes to re-sign with the promotion.

Draws Jourdain in Long Island
FeatherweightPFL
June 2, 2022
Burgos will take on Charles Jourdain in a featherweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for July 16 in Long Island, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Burgos recently snapped a two-fight losing streak in an all-out war against up-and-comer Billy Quarantillo, and he'll now look to build momentum against Jourdain, a fighter who has won three of his last four. This has all the makings of a stand-up battle, as Burgos hasn't recorded a takedown in his last seven fights, while Jourdain hasn't recorded one in his eight-fight UFC run. Burgos has the volume edge with an incredible 7.95 significant strikes landed per minute, but Jourdain isn't far behind at 5.60. Burgos will have a two-inch height and six-inch reach advantages.
Digs deep for UFC 268 win
FeatherweightPFL
November 6, 2021
Burgos defeated Billy Quarantillo via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 268 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
Burgos and Quarantillo put on a show, combining to land the most significant strikes in a three-round fight in UFC featherweight history. There were some hairy moments for Burgos early on, but he made a committed attempt to damage the lead leg of Quarantillo, and that paid major, major dividends as the fight progressed. This probably would have been a easy victory for Burgos if not for the ridiculous cardio and durability of Quarantillo. Burgos has exceptionally fast hands and is a high-level striker, but he is the type of fighter who is willing to eat a shot in order to land two of his own, and that style of fighting is rarely sustainable over the long haul. This was a must-win for Burgos on the heels of back-to-back losses to Edson Barboza and Josh Emmett, and he responded with a strong effort. That said, there is little room for error for Burgos in a loaded featherweight division.
Set to return in November
FeatherweightPFL
September 3, 2021
Burgos will face Billy Quarantillo at UFC 268 on Nov. 6, Mike Heck of MMA Fighting reports.
ANALYSIS
Burgos is coming off consecutive defeats for the first time in his career and will look to straighten things following his most recent loss to Josh Emmett in June of 2020. He'll have a tough opponent in Quarantillo, who has won nine of his last 10 fights and most recently defeated Gabriel Benitez via third-round TKO in July.
Stopped by Edson Barboza
FeatherweightPFL
May 15, 2021
Burgos lost to Edson Barboza via TKO (punches) at 1:16 of Round 3 at UFC 262 on Saturday in Houston.
ANALYSIS
It was an excellent fight that featured one of the strangest finishes in recent memory. Burgos started slowly before finding the range in Round 2. He was either down 20-18 or the fight was tied at 19-19 entering Round 3. He ate right hook from Barboza early in the frame that he seemed to be able to handle initially, but Burgos stumbled backwards after about five seconds and was clearly done. It was the type of delayed reaction finish that you typically only see on shots to the liver. Burgos is an excellent boxer and has an impressive 6-3 record in his first nine UFC bouts, but he's lost two straight, and his three defeats have come against the three best opponents he has faced in Barboza, Josh Emmett and Calvin Kattar. As good as Burgos has been, the odds of him reaching that next level and competing with the best the featherweight division has to offer are small. On the bright side, the back-and-forth affair was enough to earn both men Fight of the Night bonuses of $75,000 (up from the previous $50,000 offered).
Taking on Barboza in May
FeatherweightPFL
March 2, 2021
Burgos will take on Edson Barboza in a featherweight bout at the UFC event on May 15, Raphael Marinho of Combate.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Burgos was supposed to fight at UFC 257, but was removed from the card after Hakeem Dawodu was forced to withdraw with a shoulder injury. His last fight came back in June when he lost to Josh Emmett via unanimous decision.
