Phillips lost to Jun Yong Park via unanimous decision (25-30, 25-30, 25-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Not much to say about this one, folks. Much like his last fight, Phillips was unable to stop the takedown and unable to get back to his feet once he found himself on the mat. I suppose if one wanted they could look on the bright side and say his submission defense has improved, as he didn't get submitted here, but that's cold comfort after two lifeless displays in a row. Phillips is a brawler through-and-through, but fighting at the highest level just doesn't seem to be for him, as it's too easy to neutralize his strength. Phillips falls to 22-11 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.

Taking on Park in October
MiddleweightUFC
August 23, 2020
Phillips will fight Jun Yong Park (undisclosed) in a middleweight bout at a UFC event scheduled for Oct. 17, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips has struggled to begin his UFC career, and he looked completely outmatched when he lost to Khamzat Chimaev via submission (D'Arce Choke) in July. He's been defeated in four of his first five fights with the promotion. He'll attempt to bounce back against Park, who was forced to withdraw from a scheduled fight for Aug. 1 for undisclosed reasons, but he'll be ready to return to the Octagon in October. Park is coming off a win over Marc-Andre Barriault via unanimous decision in December of 2019 that brought his UFC record to 1-1. Phillips has a slight reach advantage, while Park carries a slight edge in height.
Not competitive in Abu Dhabi
MiddleweightUFC
July 15, 2020
Phillips lost to Khamzat Chimaev via submission (D'Arce Choke) at 1:12 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Phillips is probably wishing he went up against his originally scheduled opponent -- Dusko Todorovic -- right about now. Instead, he got the wrecking ball that is Chimaev. Known as a pure brawler, Phillips was hopelessly overmatched against the well-rounded Chimaev. He did his best to hang around, but this fight was effectively over before the opening bell rang. The toughness of Phillips is admirable, but he is now 1-4 in the UFC and has been stopped in three of those four losses.
Getting new opponent
MiddleweightUFC
July 8, 2020
Phillips will now face Khamzat Chimaev at the UFC event on July 15 at Yas Island, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
The Phillips-Todorovic match will have to be put on hold yet again after Todorovic was forced to withdraw due to an undisclosed reason. This will be Phillips' first time in the octagon since September of 2019 when he defeated Allen Amedovski.
Bout with Todorovic rebooked in July
MiddleweightUFC
June 22, 2020
Phillips (22-9-0, 1 NC) is scheduled to face Dusko Todorovic (9-0-0) in a middleweight fight July 15 at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
The Phillips-Todorovic matchup has now been booked for a third time after the bout was cancelled at two different venues back in March on account of the COVID-19 pandemic. Phillips will be returning to the Octagon for the first time since September 2019, when he defeated Alen Amedovski via first-round knockout at UFC Copenhagen.
No longer fighting in Cage Warriors 113
MiddleweightUFC
March 18, 2020
Phillips' (22-9-0, 1 NC) scheduled middleweight fight Friday with Dusko Todorovic (9-0-0) at Cage Warriors 113 has been cancelled, Simon Head of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
The Phillips-Todorovic fight was a late addition to the Cage Warriors 113 card after the two were previously scheduled to face off in the UFC London event that has since been cancelled. Though Cage Warriors 113 will still be held after moving from London to Manchester, travel restrictions amid the coronavirus outbreak will prevent Phillips and Todorovic from taking part.
