It's been a rough past 36 hours for Springer. He missed weight by five pounds on Friday and failed to last even four minutes on his company debut on Saturday. Of course, he did accept this fight just days ago following the withdrawal of Giga Chikadze. Springer actually submitted Chikadze on Dana White's Contender Series, and although he looked terrible in this one, Springer deserves an opportunity for another fight with the company with a full training camp under his belt. The UFC brass will almost certainly agree given Springer's willingness to "save" this bout.

Springer is no stranger to the UFC scene, as he appeared in Season 22 of The Ultimate Fighter in 2015, and later on in the 2018 iteration of Dana White's Contender Series. He had some success with the latter, getting a third-round submission victory over Giga Chikadze, who was set to be Caceres' original opponent in this match (and favored, nonetheless). Chikadze has since rattled off five consecutive victories, while Springer fought just one more time on the regional circuits. He'll now get what could be his big break against Caceres, a striker by trade who will own slight advantages in both the height and reach departments.
