Howard ends up eliminated from PFL tournament after technical draw
WelterweightPFL
October 20, 2018
Howard fought to a technical draw against Louis Taylor at PFL 10 on Saturday in Washington, D.C.
ANALYSIS
The bout was declared a technical draw after Taylor landed an illegal strike with two seconds left in the fight. Taylor advanced due to winning the first round and the tie breaker. Howard had a great performance in his first fight on the night. However, he really struggled here against Taylor. The veteran scored with a variety of tricky strikes from the outside, and Howard was never really able to get going. Howard is normally able to score takedowns, but he never really came close in this fight. In fact, Taylor was the one scoring takedowns. Howard will need to go back to the drawing board following this loss since he is now out of the tournament.

Dominates Eddie Gordon at PFL 10
WelterweightPFL
October 20, 2018
Howard defeated Eddie Gordon via unanimous decision (20-18, 20-18, 20-18) at PFL 10 on Saturday in Washington, D.C.
ANALYSIS
Howard proved himself to be the better fighter in this contest. He had a noticeable advantage in terms of hand speed. He landed multiple-punch combinations throughout the fight, and he did a good job ripping to the body. Howard also mixed up his wrestling well. Even though he did not do much on the ground, his slams likely seal the fight in the eyes of the judges. Towards the end of the second round, Howard brought the crowd to life with a knockdown and nearly finished on the ground.
Starts the PFL 3 main card with a submission win over Gasan Umalatov
WelterweightPFL
July 5, 2018
Howard defeated Gasan Umalatov via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:59 of round 2 at PFL 3 on Thursday in Washington, DC.
ANALYSIS
It has been a while since Howard had a performance this impressive. He took Umalatov out of his game by mixing his striking with his grappling. He would get to the clinch, throw on the break and land hard strikes. On a few occasions, he used to striking to set up the clinch. In the second round, he scored a nice takedown and took the back. It took him a minute or so to lock in the rear-naked choke, but he eventually did and finished the fight.

Howard lost to Tim Means via KO (punch) at 0:21 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The first round was competitive, with Howard landing all three of his takedown attempts. Unfortunately for Howard, he had real struggles with the much longer Means on the feet. Howard will fight anytime, anywhere, against anybody, but it's been a struggle for the better part of nearly two years. Howard is just 1-4 in his last five bouts. There's an outside chance that he could be looking at a release.

Howard (+270) is the underdog for his welterweight fight against Tim Means that will take place Thursday at UFC Fight Night 80 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Howard doesn't have the most impressive UFC resume, and although he lands over half his attempted strikes, he averages more strikes absorbed than landed per minute. He'll likely have his hands full against a skilled UFC veteran in Means.
John Howard: Fight Against Tim Means On Tap
WelterweightPFL
September 17, 2015
Howard will fight Tim Means at UFC Fight Night on December 10 in Las Vegas, UFC.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Howard has power, but not much else. Howard broke a three-fight losing streak with a split decision win over Cathal Pendred in his last fight in July. Unfortunately for Howard, Pendred is one of the worst fighters on the UFC roster, so it isn't a great sign that he had to go to a split decision to pull that one out. The only notable wins in Howard's career are over Urijah Hall and Tamdan McCrory.
