Marquardt is hoping to return to professional fighting in early 2020, Nick Segura of MMA Junkie reports.
ANALYSIS
Following his retirement in December of 2017, Marquardt said he still wanted to continue MMA training, and he said Tuesday that he hopes to return to fighting in early 2020. The 40-year-old is not currently signed to any contracts, but he mentioned that he had been in talks with Bellator. He also said that he could potentially drop to welterweight if he returns. Marquardt carries a 38-19-1 record over his professional career, but he is coming off three consecutive losses and it's safe to wonder whether he will be able to make an impact upon his potential return.

Announces retirement
MiddleweightOther
December 28, 2017
Marquardt announced that he is retiring from professional fighting, on Blogger.com Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Marquardt has called it a career after 22 years in the sport, having accrued four world titles and a 35-19 record as a professional. "Nate The Great" had been slowing down recently, losing nine of his last 12 fights dating back to 2012. He received a 180-day medical suspension following his most recent loss to Cezar Ferriera at UFC Norfolk in November, and that may have been what finally prompted him to shut it down. Marquardt stated that he will still be involved in MMA on many levels and that he will "continue training in all aspects of MMA" while pursuing a degree at Gateway Seminary as he continues his sports ministry service.
Given long medical suspension after UFC Norfolk

Marquardt received a 180-day medical suspension from the Virginia Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation following his UFC Fight Night loss to Cezar Ferriera on Saturday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Marquardt took numerous hits during his battle with Ferriera. While he looked to improve slightly doing the second frame, the bookends were nothing impressive. He lost the decision which means he's down three in a row. The 38-year-old was given a longer medical suspension of 180 days following the fight due to a possible face injury resulting from the number of strikes he absorbed. He will have to sit out during that time unless cleared earlier by a physician. Other fighters given long medical suspensions pending clearance include Raphael Assuncao, John Dodson and Nina Ansaroff.
Again looking at release after another terrible effort

Marquardt lost to Cezar Ferreira via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Norfolk, Virginia.
ANALYSIS
A split decision was about the best Nate could hope for after serving as a punching bag for Ferreira for a good portion of Rounds 1 and 3. Things improved slightly for Marquardt in Round 2 but it still wasn't enough for him to earn the victory. Not that this is exactly breaking news, but Nate is finished. The 38-year-old has lost three fights in a row and is sporting a 3-9 record dating back to January 2013. UFC President Dana White needs to give Marquardt his walking papers if he isn't willing to step aside on his own.
Drops decision to Vitor Belfort at UFC 212

June 3, 2017
Marquardt lost to Vitor Belfort via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 212 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro.
ANALYSIS
It was a grinding contest in which neither aging veteran could pull away from the other, but as soon as it went to the judges' scorecards, Marquardt had little chance in enemy territory. Nate looked fairly strong over the first ten minutes before absorbing a bit too much punishment in the final frame. Marquardt ended up with a plus-30 advantage (68-38) in the total strike department but that ultimately wasn't enough. Nate is now 1-5 in his last six bouts. He was far from overwhelmed on Saturday, but it's time to walk away.
Scheduled to fight Vitor Belfort at UFC 212

April 28, 2017
Marquardt is scheduled to fight Vitor Belfort at UFC 212 on June 3 in Rio de Janeiro, Danny Segura of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 38-year-old Marquardt appears to be approaching the twilight of his career considering the veteran has dropped seven of his last 10 fights, with his last coming at the hand of Sam Alvey back on Jan. 28 on a unanimous decision. However, Belfort has also been struggling, as the 40-year-old is just 1-4 across his last five bouts himself.
