Gonzalez was released from his UFC contract Thursday, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gonzalez only managed to record a victory in one of his first four fights, most recently losing to Jim Miller via submission (rear-naked choke) at UFC Fort Lauderdale in April. The 29-year-old showed some promise during his tenure with the promotion, but he'll now look elsewhere to continue fighting.

Falls to 1-3 in UFC
LightweightOther
April 27, 2019
Gonzalez lost to Jim Miller via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:12 of Round 1 at UFC Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Gonzalez showed shades of effective striking in the first round, but Miller countered by going to the takedown. Gonzalez was able to get back to his feet after the first takedown attempt, but Miller was ultimately able to take his back and secure the fight-ending choke. Gonzalez now has just one win in four opportunities with the promotion, and while there's room for improvement at 29 years old, this outing likely didn't inspire much confidence within UFC brass.
Next fight in Fort Lauderdale
LightweightOther
March 14, 2019
Gonzalez will take on Jim Miller in a lightweight matchup at UFC Fort Lauderdale on April 27, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gonzalez has lost two of his three fights with the UFC, but he hasn't necessarily been boring, with none of those bouts going to the judges. He'll look to even out his record against a tough veteran in Jim Miller, against whom he'll sport slight height and reach advantages. Miller may have lost five of his last six fights, but the competition he's faced -- especially earlier in that run -- is on an entirely different level than anything Gonzalez has seen in his career. It's a great opportunity for Gonzalez, who could pick up a win against a well-known name at the declining stages of his career.
Looks terrible in loss Saturday in Pittsburgh
LightweightOther
September 16, 2017
Gonzalez lost to Gregor Gillespie via submission (arm triangle) at 2:11 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
As soon as this fight turned into anything other than an all-out brawl, Gonzalez was finished. He did his best (and only) work when Gillespie foolishly engaged him in striking exchanges. Shortly afterwards Gillespie focused on takedowns and the fight was over. Gonzalez earned his first UFC win his last time out against J.C. Cottrell, but he now finds himself staring at a 1-2 record with the company. There's nothing to see here moving forward.
Scores first UFC win Saturday in Denver
LightweightOther
January 28, 2017
Gonzalez defeated J.C. Cottrell via submission (Brabo choke) at 3:54 of Round 1 at UFC on FOX 23 on Saturday in Denver.
ANALYSIS
The choke that ended the fight was beautiful, but Gonzalez looked dreadful up until that point. He offered little resistance when Cottrell scored a takedown after a sloppy striking exchange, and he had trouble containing his opponent on the mat prior to locking in the choke. Gonzalez now has a UFC win under his belt, but he offers no long-term potential.
Blitzed by Drew Dober in UFC debut
LightweightOther
September 10, 2016
Gonzalez lost to Drew Dober via TKO (punches) at 1:45 of Round 1 at UFC 203 on Saturday in Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
In Gonzalez's UFC debut, he got off no offense, was the victim of a hard low blow, and was brutally knocked out. Not a good start to his UFC career. Perhaps the shot to the groin threw off Gonzalez's equilibrium, but the bottom line is that he couldn't have looked any worse in his debut with the company. His six-inch height advantage over Dober was of no use at all. There's nothing to see here.
