Edwards snatched the top spot from Antonio Garcia for BMW in the waning minutes of GT Le Mans qualifying at Road Atlanta to start from the class pole in Saturday's Motul Petit Le Mans. It marks the first class pole for the Bobby Rahal-led organization in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale and the 26th in program history, sportscar365.com reports.

Edwards took pole position for Ohio-based BMW Team RLL in the hotly contested GT Le Mans class at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, followed closely by Nick Tandy's Porsche 911 RSR and Alexander Sims in the sister BMW M8 GTE, sportscar 365.com reports.

Edwards remains optimistic for the BMW M8 GTE's competition debut in the Rolex 24 at Daytona following troubled running and mechanical issues so far this weekend. Edwards' No. 24 BMW had an electrical issue followed by a splitter delamination problem, which prevented it from running in the first two practice sessions on Thursday, sportscar365.com reports.

One of the four IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Le Mans (GTLM) teams testing at Daytona International Speedway this week is BMW Team RLL. Two of the team's drivers were on hand, returning BMW driver Edwards alongside Connor de Phillippi, who joins the team after competing with Land Motorsport for two seasons, IMSA.com reports.
