Vargic had an exceptional campaign with the Croatian side - Rijeka last season drawing the SS Lazio's interest and eventually transferring to the Italian side in February of 2016, though, he finished the season with Rijeka playing on-loan. The 29-year-old keeper kept 21 clean sheets while conceding only 13 goals in 32 appearances this past campaign with the highlight of not conceding a goal for 783 consecutive minutes from 2 August 2015 to 4 October 2015, which is the second longest streak in the history of the Croatian league.
