Will retire at season's end
GMinnesota Lynx
August 13, 2018
Whalen will officially announce Monday her retirement from the WNBA, effective at the end of the 2018 campaign, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Whalen will remain with the Lynx for their final three games of the regular season in addition to the team's playoff run before turning her focus to coaching the women's basketball team at her alma mater, the University of Minnesota. It will spell an end to a storied 15-year career for Whalen, who has been a part of 322 wins, good for first in WNBA history. Whalen also ranks third all time in assists (2,337) and has been named to five All-Star squads, making her one of the pre-eminent floor generals of her generation. The 36-year-old has taken on more of a supporting role for the Lynx in 2018, with her 5.5 points and 3.0 assists per game representing the lowest averages of her career.
Will rejoin Lynx Sunday
GMinnesota Lynx
August 12, 2018
Whalen (rest) will return to action for Sunday's matchup with the Storm, Kent Youngblood of the Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Whalen got the night off for rest Thursday, but as expected is set to rejoin the lineup Sunday and should start as usual. The veteran has struggled a bit of late, converting just 5-of-20 field goal attempts for 12 points across the last three games, so she'll be looking to put together a bounce-back effort as the Lynx jostle for playoff seeding.

August 9, 2018
Whalen will get Thursday's game against the Aces off for rest.
ANALYSIS
Whalen, who has struggled recently, going 5-of-20 from the field over her past three appearances, will get the night off. The veteran's 19.5 minutes per game may be absorbed by the likes of Danielle Robinson and Tanisha Wright.

Whalen (nose) is not on the injury report in advance of Saturday's game against the Mercury, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Whalen took a shot to the nose during Wednesday's game against the Fever, forcing her to leave the contest. However, it appears she's avoided a serious injury and will be able to suit up as soon as Saturday.
